SATURDAY’S BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Avondale sweeps Stoney Creek; Notre Dame Prep, Lutheran Northwest both win pair
ROCHESTER HILLS — Two of the best baseball teams in the four-division Oakland Activities Association hooked up for a OAA crossover twinbill Saturday and visiting Avondale pulled off the sweep.
Avondale won Game 1 by a 5-4 count, then erupted for a 13-5 victory in Game 2.
Mitch Robinson pitched three relief innings with three hits and a strikeout to gain the win on the mound in the opener. A. J. Susick went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the first game for Avondale. Dane Hathaway had a three-run home run for Stoney Creek in the first game.

Matt Andrus drove in three runs and had two hits in the nightcap for Avondale, while Joe Delpup added two hits and two RBI and Craig Zimmerman had two hits for the Yellowjackets (9-3).
Jacob Adams pitched one inning of relief for the win, while Andrus got the save for Avondale.
Zack Northrup finished 3-for-4 for Stoney Creek (8-5).
PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 7-3, RIVERVIEW GABRIEL RICHARD 6-0: Host Notre Dame Prep collected 13 runs in this CHSL sweep Saturday.
Mike Broderick helped his own cause on the mound by providing the game-winning RBI in the opener for the Fighting Irish.
In Game 2, Shane Frakes finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Notre Dame Prep (6-4, 4-4). Broderick went 2-for-3, while Nick Watson fanned 14 batters in the nightcap for the Irish.
ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 13-18, DETROIT KING 1-3: Northwest swept Class A Detroit King Saturday by rolling up 31 runs in the double-header.
Chad Cook went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in two runs and also swiped two bases in Game 1. Ian Wellhousen got the win in the first game on the mound for Northwest (9-2).
Game 2 saw Matt Grunewald finished 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in six runs for the Crusaders. Jesse Kimmeo went 2-for-3 with plated two runs and Christian Woodfin fanned seven King batters for the win.
