Lakeland blanks Regina for Pieper Tournament title; Lake Orion, Athens fall in bracket play

ROYAL OAK  — White Lake Lakeland won its fourth consecutive Fred Pieper Softball Tournament Championship Sunday and fifth in the past six years by topping Warren Regina 10-0 in five innings in the 34 Annual event.

Lakeland opened the scoring in the top of the second when Morgan Craft hit a leadoff single. She took second on single by Karissa Gawronski, took third on a fielder’s choice by Hannah Szajner, and scored on Jessica McNabb’s two-run single.

For Lakeland, Craft finished 3-for-3 with 3 runs and three RBI. Gawronski finished 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Selena Hicks went 3-for-3 with a double. Hicks also captured the win in the pitcher’s circle, throwing four innings where she allowed only two hits and two walks against two strikeouts

Regina got its hits from Amanda Blok (double) and Riley Hison (single). Hison also suffered the loss as starting pitcher for the Saddelites.
