GIRLS SOCCER DISTRICTS: Troy ousts rival Troy Athens

| May 30, 2012 | Comments (1)

TROY — Troy High opened the girls soccer season the same way the Colts opened the postseason Tuesday — with a 2-0 shutout of rival Troy Athens.

Host Troy scored a goal in each half to advance to Thursday’s 5 p.m. district semifinal against Utica Ford II.

Irene Young opened the scoring in the first half when she finished off a pass from Madison Hirsch. The same duo hooked up in the second half when Young assisted Hirsch for an insurance goal.

Alison Holland made three saves for her 13th shutout for Troy, which has four shutouts against Athens over two seasons.

Danielle Cooper made 12 saves in a losing effort for Athens.
