BOYS LACROSSE: Clarkston cruises into regional finals

WEST BLOOMFIELD — There and back again.

Clarkston’s boys lacrosse team is headed back to the Division 1 regional finals, this time courtesy of a 12-9 victory Tuesday over Brighton in a regional semifinal at West Bloomfield.

The Wolves (16-2-0), who have only lost four games in two seasons, will face top-ranked Birmingham Brother Rice at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. Brother Rice defeated Clarkston is last year’s regional final.

Clarkston led 4-2 after the first quarter, only to see Brighton (18-2-0) go on a 4-1 second-quarter run to take a 6-5 halftime lead.

Clarkston regained the lead thanks to a 4-1 spurt in the third stanza for a 9-7 advantage, then held firm with a 3-2 edge in the final quarter to preserve the win.

Kevin O’Grady scored six goals with an assist to lead Clarkston. Jordan Kincaid added three goals and an assist, Kevin Horton added two goals and an assist and Sam Moore scored the other goal for the Wolves, who are 34-4 during the past two seasons.

Adam Gohl finished with 15 saves out of 24 shots on goal for Clarkston. Nick Demattia, Ethan Frick, Evan Kneisel, AJ Schlaff and Preston Haven had a combined total of 13 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers to anchor the Wolves’ defensive unit.
