ROCHESTER HILLS — LaDonia Hughes resigned as the head coach of the Oakland softball team, Athletics Director Tracy Huth announced on Monday. Hughes is leaving Oakland to join her family in Virginia and spend time raising her daughter.

“We certainly understand LaDonia’s decision to prioritize her family,” said Huth. “We appreciate the effort that she gave as a head coach at Oakland and we wish her all the best in the future.”

Hughes became Oakland’s sixth head coach in September of 2010 and led Oakland to a 27-67 record in her two seasons in charge of the program. Hughes mentored four All-Summit League players, including Erin Galloway and Erika Polidori, who earned league honors in back-to-back seasons under Hughes.

Oakland will begin the search for Hughes’ replacement immediately.
