TUESDAY’S BOYS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Rochester, Everest open with wins
ROCHESTER — For the first time since the mid-2000s, Rochester has entered the boys soccer season with high expectations.
The Falcons proved just why on Tuesday night in their season opener with Waterford Kettering.
Rochester scored five goals in the first half and added two second-half markers in recording a 7-0 shutout of the visiting Captains in a non-league match.
Sophomore Nash Popovic, who missed his entire freshman season with a broken leg, finished with two goals and an assist for Rochester. Miles Dale added three goals and an assist, while Evan Asuncion and Jimmy Stathakios also scored for Rochester (1-0-0). Luke Deel, Collin Berga, Danny Dubek and Justin Van Dyke drew assists and Matt Hawes notched the shutout on three saves.
CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE-WATERFORD OUR LADY OF THE LAKES UNIFIED 4, MARINE CITY CARDINAL MOONEY 0: Everest Lakes opened the season with this shutout victory.
Steven Scott made four saves for the shutout, while Alex Mattise scored twice to pace the Mountaineers (1-0-0).
Adam Lagg and Sergio Echezarria added goals for Everest, as all four tallies were unassisted.
