THURSDAY’S FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Avondale, Northwest, Notre Dame Prep all gain lopsided wins

AUBURN HILLS — Despite some early miscues and an 6-0 deficit, Auburn Hills Avondale got untracked in the second quarter Thursday and eventually scored 41 unanswered points in a 41-6 trouncing of visiting Birmingham Groves in an OAA Blue Division football game.

Avondale scored 14 points in each the second and third quarters and tacked on 13 points in the fourth period to avenge a loss last season to the Falcons, who shared the league crown a year ago with North Farmington.

Sophomore Josh Holloman finished with 13 carries and 134 yards and two touchdowns to pace Avondale (2-0, 2-0). Holloman scored on runs of 63 and 8 yards for the Yellowjackets.

Spencer Smith had a 2-yard TD run and passed for another touchdown, a 36-yard strike to Eric Stubbs, for Avondale. John Ozerities had a 12-yard run, Gabriel LaPean chipped in an 11-yard touchdown run and Julian Pepaj was 5-for-6 on extra points.

Ozerities finished with 63 yards on six carries, while Clark Clancy picked up nine tackles and Jabar Mims added an interception for the Yellowjackets.

Ross Williams finished with 133 yards on 15 carries and scored on a 28-yard run for Groves (0-2, 0-2).

ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 43, LUTHERAN WESTLAND 14: Northwest regrouped after a season-opening loss to Warren Michigan collegiate to throttle the Warriors in the Michigan Independent Athletic conference opener for both teams.

Senior quarterback Nathan Drews finished 11-for-14 passing for 92 yards and rushed 15 times for 116 yards for the Crusaders (1-1, 1-0). Drews, who was 5-for-5 on extra points and also had a two-point conversions pass, scored on a 6-yard run and had TD passes to Eric Mischley (15 yards),Josh Morrison (76 yards) and Ben Augostus (12 yards)

Josh Macks chipped in a 2-yard rushing touchdown and found paydirt on an 18-yard interception return for the Crusaders.

Mike Richter had scoring runs of 6 and 22 yards for Lutheran Westland (0-2, 0-1).

PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 50, DEARBORN STAR INTERNATIONAL 0: Notre Dame Prep scored early and often in this non-conference home win Thursday.

Jermiah Johnson scored on runs of 14 and 51 yards to lead the Fighting Irish.

Anthony Gunn (38-yard TD catch) and Max Schwagman (9-yard TD reception) chioped in with scores, Brendan Newvine added touchdown runs of 63 and 5 yards, Daniel Kurrie caught a 62-yard scoring toss from Matt Durkin, Joe Kutil had two TD passes and Andrew Woodrich added a safety for Notre Dame Prep (2-0).

The Irish led 20-0 after the first quarter and 43-0 at the half.

LINDEN 37, HOLLY 14: Linden moved to 2-0 overall and in the Flint Metro League with this convincing home win over the Bronchos (0-2, 0-2).
