FOOTBALL: Lake Orion, Rochester, Troy win in OAA-Red

LAKE ORION — Behind a 20-0 first quarter, Lake Orion picked up little resistance in downing Rochester Stoney Creek , 42-7, in an OAA Red Division football game Friday.

Derek DeLaura was 7-for-13 passing for 97 yards and one touchdown pass and Jacob Miller rushed five times for 82 yards and three rushing touchdowns for the unbeaten Dragons (4-0, 3-0).

Chaz Miller also had five catches for 76 yards for Lake Orion, while Nick Booker returned the opening kickoff of the game 98 yards for paydirt.

Chris Leigh, one of several members of the Dragons’ Division 1 state champion track and field team, opened the scoring with a 43-yard touchdown sprint to set the tone.

Miller added runs of 7, 54 and 9 yards and Chaz Miller caught a 6-yard pass from DeLaura for Lake Orion. Jeremy King kicked 4-of-5 extra points and Jacob Miller had a two-point conversion run for the Dragons.

Joe Cox collected a 20-yard toss from Sean Scullen for Stoney Creek (2-2, 1-2).

ROCHESTER 20, WEST BLOMFIELD 13: Rochester rebounded from its first loss of the season with this narrow victory over the Lakers.

The Falcons’ James Ward, who did not play in Rochester’s 24-0 loss to Clarkston last week, rushed for 167 yards on 22 carries and scored all three touchdowns for Rochester (3-1, 2-1).Ward scored on runs of 2, 3 and 2 yards for the Falcons, who forced six turnovers.

Brad Berkseth and Demetrius Magee had two interceptions each, while John Doroshewitz had another pick and Peter Doucet recovered a fumble for Rochester.

Freshman quarterback Trishton Jackson scored both touchdowns in the first quarter for West Bloomfield (1-3, 0-3), which led 13-0 after the first period.

CLARKSTON 42, TROY ATHENS 6: Clarkston moved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the OAA Red Division with this lopsided win over host Athens.

The Red Hawks slipped to 0-4 and 0-3.

TROY 28, PONTIAC 14: It was a Cherry festival Friday night in Troy.

The Colts picked up monster games form the Cherry twins, Terrance and Torrance, in this victory over the Phoenix.

Terrance Cherry ran for 179 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Colts. Meanwhile, Torrance Cherry blazed a trail for 118 yards on 17 rushes for the Colts (3-1, 2-1).

Pontiac slipped to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference in the loss.
