FOOTBALL: Adams upsets Southfield; Stoney Creek, Notre Dame Prep, Avondale all win

ROCHESTER HILLS — Trailing 13-6 at the half, Rochester Adams erupted for 28 second-half points to stun Southfield, 34-20, in OAA White Division football play Friday.

Ray Buford hauled in a 30-yard pass from Tre Walton and Jacob Studdard was on the receiving end of another Walton TD strike, this time from 20 yards out, to help the Bluejays claim its halftime led. Matt Falcon added a 45-yard TD sprint late in the game for Southfield.

Ben Hart (32-yard fumble return), C.J. Borglin 12-yard TD catch), Hart (23-yard run) and Borglin (45-yard catch and run) scored the second-half touchdowns in succession for Adams (2-5, 2-4). Jeremy Ball had two touchdown passes for the Highlanders.

Britton Skinner booted field goals of 37 and 40 yards, respectively in the first and second quarters for Adams, while h also nailed four extra points.

ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 50, WEST BLOOMFIELD 28: Joe Cox and Sean Scullen combined for five touchdowns and 340 total rushing yards to lead Stoney Creek to the OAA Red Division win.

Cox, who had 200 rushing yards, collected touchdown runs of 71 and 44 yards for the Cougars (4-3, 3-3), who can clinch a postseason berth with a pair of wins in the final two weeks.

West Bloomfield led only briefly with a 45-yard fumble return in the first quarter before Stoney Creek answered with a 28-0 run through three quarters of play for a 28-7 lead entering the fourth quarter. The cougars held a 22-21 edge in the fourth quarter.

Sean Scullen had a 28-yard run and cuahgt a 35-yard scoring toss for Stoney Creek. Noah Beck (20-yard TD reception), Alex Schnurr (16-yard TD catch), Kyle Bricknell (4-yard run) and Sam Clayman (safety) also put up points on the board for Stoney Creek.

Schnurr was also good on seven extra points, Justin Allor had two touchdown passes and Scullen tossed one touchdown for the Cougars.

AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 41, HIGHLAND PARK 0: Michael Johnson scored a piar of touchdowns and Avondale qualified for postseason play with this non-league shutout of the Polar Bears.

Johnson scored on runs of 16 and 39 yards for Avondale (6-1). Chase Lalla (20 yard run), Josh Holloman (16-yard run),Grant Sharkey (27-yard run) and Gabe Lapean (3-yard run) also had TDs for the Yellowjackets.

Avondale scored 13 points in the first quarter and put the game on ice with a 21-0 surge in the second period.

PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP, 40 MACOMB LUTHERAN NORTH 18: Jermiah Johnson had 16 carries for 214 yards and three touchdowns to lead Notre Dame Prep to the CHSL-AA Division win and help the gighting Irish claim the league title for the second straight season.

Johnson scored on runs of 4, 1and 76 yards, Joe Kutil added a 48-yard run,Jimmy Durkin caught a 41-yard strike from Kutil and Anthony Gunn returned a interception 71 yards to account for the touchdowns for Notre Dame Prep (7-0, 3-0), which led 26-3 at the half.

John McGrath III kicked a 22-yard field goal, Vincent Petilla had a 14-yard touchdown run and William Kruse added a 1-yard plunge for another score for Lutheran North (5-2, 2-1).
