FOOTBALL: Stoney Creek’s 28 unanswered points help Cougars sack Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester Stoney Creek found another gar in the second half Friday.That was enough to speed past rival Rochester.

Trailing 14-7 at the half, the host Cougars scored 28 unanswered points over the final two quarters to topple the Falcons, 35-14, and forge a three-way tie in third place in the OAA Red Division.

Stoney Creek, Rochester and Troy all finished 4-3 in league play.

Sean Scullen tied the game in the third quarter when he snagged a 29-yard pass from Justin Allor and Joe Cox scampered home on a 39-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to put Stoney Creek ahead for good at 21-14.

Cox added a 6-yard touchdown and Alex Schnurr, who was 5-for-5 on extra points, caught a 44-yard heave from Allor in the fourth quarter to ice the game.

Justin Allor scored on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter to help the Cougars (5-3, 4-3) draw even.

James Ward staked Rochester (5-3, 4-3) to a 7-0 lead on a 25-yard run by James Ward and grabbed a 14-7 lead at the half when Demetrius Magee caught a 13-yard TD strike from John Doroshewtiz

Rochester, Stoney Creek and Troy are all 5-3 overall and can each punch a postseason ticket with wins in Week 9, the OAA Red-White Crossover series.
