MONDAY’S BOYS SOCCER DISTRICT ROUNDUP: Oakland Christian, Everest, Notre Dame Prep, Athens all open tournament with wins

AUBURN HILLS — Daniel Smith made sure that Auburn Hills Oakland Christian would not be a first-round upset victim.

The midfielder from Auburn Hills Oakland Christian notched the hat trick Monday afternoon in leading the state-ranked Lancers past visiting West Bloomfield Jewish Academy, 4-1, in a Division n4 pre-district boys soccer match.

Oakland Christian, which outshot the Jaguars 12-4, also picked a goal and two assists from Chris Polite.

Stuart Sutherland made four saves, including one on a penalty kick, for Oakland Christian.

Oakland Christian will host Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

MORE DIVISION 4

CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 2, NOVI FRANKLIN ROAD CHRISTIAN 1 (SO): Everest Collegiate advanced to the district semifinals when Danny McMahon scored the tie-breaker in the sixth-round of a shootout in this Division 4 pre-district Monday.

Ben Marcial tied the game late in the first half for the Mountaineers, which held a 5-4 edge in penalty kicks. Steven Scott made 11 saves for Everest Collegiate (10-5).

Micah Charlick scored in the first half for Franklin Road Christian.

DIVISION 3

PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 2, LIVONIA CLARENCEVILLE 1: After winning the CHSL AA Division last week, the fighting Irish kept up their winning ways with this pre-district road win Monday.

David Klei scored what proved to be the game winner late in the first half and also assisted on had a goal and assisted on Zack Nantau’s first-half goal for NDP.

David Van scored for Clarenceville in the second half.

DIVISION 1

TROY ATHENS 4, UTICA 0: Athens, the OAA Red Division champion, opened up [postseason play Monday with this four-goal triumph.

Max Klitzke, the OAA-Red goal leader, tacked on two more goals to lead the Red Hawks (13-4-2). Aaron Gebauer added a goal and assist and Luis Anaya also scored for Athens.

Brett Schmitz notched the shutout on four saves for the Red Hawks, who scored tow goals in each half.

Troy Walters (5 saves) Matt Wilkie (two saves) split time in goal for Utica (10-6-4), which was outshot 11-4.
