DETROIT — The streak is over.
Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard ended Pontiac Notre Dame Prep’s streak of consecutive regular season wins at 21 games Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit.
Gabriel Richard revenged NDP for a regular season loss this season and a loss in last year’s Prep Bowl Wild Card, turning the tables with a 17-12 decision.
Prep posted a 28-16 victory last month and rolled Gabriel Richard twice last season, including 38-7 in the title match.
Notre Dame Prep (8-1), the CHSL-AA Division winner which is ranked sixth in the Associated Press’ Division 4 polls, was stopped with 1:20 to play on its final drive in Gabriel Richard (8-1) territory.
Steve Tracey nailed a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter, while Ashton Hundley scored on a 1-yard plunge later in the period for a 10-0 advantage. Gabriel Richard tacked on 17 more points in the second frame when Mason Sarosi found a streaking Michael Wolf on a 2-yard pass play.
Gabriel Richard forced three turnovers and recovered a botched punt in the win.
Jermaih Johnson, who had 18 carries for 90 yards, scored both touchdowns for NDP, including a 27-yard sprint in the second quarter and a 3-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.
Anthony Gunn caught seven passes for 105 yards for Notre Dame Prep.
