GIRLS BASKETBALL: Clarkston thumps rival Lake Orion; Stoney Creek handles Avondale; Holly, Pontiac roll

LAKE ORION — Clarkston grabbed an early lead and was able to cruise to a 52-31 OAA crossover victory over host Lake Orion Tuesday in girls basketball play.

Erin Davenport scored a game-high 17 points for Clarkston, while Erika Davenport scored 16 points with 11 rebounds for the Wolves (2-0).  Delaney Kenny chipped in with seven points and Kacy Robinson twined six points for Clarkston, which led 16-5 after the first quarter and never looked back.

Nicole Krier scored 13 points for Lake Orion (0-3), which converted just 13-of-28 free throw attempts in the loss.

ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK 52, AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE 41: Stoney Creek used an 11-6 edge in the second quarter and outscored Avondale 28-22 in the second half to pick up this 11-point OAA Red Division victory.

Mari Zandi scored 16 points and Natalie Voss added 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Stoney Creek.

 

Quinnece Garrison scored 16 points for Avondale. Karlee Campbell added 12 points, Daja Whiteside chipped in 11 points and Sabina Douglas followed with nine points for the Yellowjackets.

HOLLY 61, FLINT KEARSLEY 28: Five players scored between six and 16 points to propel Holly to this Flint Metro League win Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Smith scored 16 to lead the Bronchos. Abby Lewandowski and Brooke Jackman scored eight apiece, while Alyssa Copley and Jenna Pepper followed with six points each for Holly (2-1, 1-0), which led 28-9 at the half.

Cami Foster scored 10 for Kearsley (1-2, 0-1).

PONTIAC 49, WATERFORD MOTT 45: Pontiac rallied back from a 23-20 halftime deficit, thanks to a 16-9 third quarter spurt, to post this non-conference home win Tuesday over the Corsairs.

The Phoenix, which made only 7-of-p23 free throw attempts in the contest, outscored the guests 29-24 in the second half

Amanda Miller scored 20 points to go with eight rebounds for Pontiac, while Deja Cato added eight points and 12 assists for the Phoenix.

Lauren Hung pumped in a game-high 26 points for Mott, which made onl7 13-of-29 free throws.
