CLARKSTON — It seems that Clarkston’s rare two-game skid from December is all a distant memory.

The Wolves won their third straight game in January, pulling away late for a hard-fought, 53-44 OAA Red Division boys basketball victory.

Clarkston (6-2, 2-1) closed out the game with a 7-0 run, capping an 16-11 fourth quarter to down the Phoenix.

Jordan Daquqi, who returned to the lineup in January, drilled a trio of three-pointers in the contest and finished with a game-high 17 points. Nick Owens added 13 points and Andrew Myers, who made 6-of-8 free throws, scored 12 for Clarkston.

Jarod Jones led three Pontiac players in double figures with 14 points. Decory Thompson added 11 points and Dijon Dogdell added 10 points for the Phoenix (5-3, 0-3), who shot and made only one free throw.

Clarkston sank 11-of-17 free throws.

Clarkston held a narrow 12-10 lead after the first quarter and thanks to a 18-14 e3dge in the second quarter, carried a 30-24 lead into halftime.

Pontiac outscored Clarkston 9-7 in the third quarter to pull to within 37-33.
