COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Rochester College’s win streak hits 10 games
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester College’s men’s basketball team continued to dominate small-school competition, winning a pair of games last week.
The Warriors enjoyed victories over George Brown College and Redeemer University College.
RC defeated George Brown, 81-64, to earn their 16th win of the season. The Warriors struggled out of the gate, down 10-0 after the first three minutes of play. That would be the only lead the Huskies would have as the Warriors went on to take a 45-30 halftime lead.
Shooting 43.5 percent from the field, the Warriors were led by senior Dramell Hogan (Detroit/Walled Lake Western) who scored 20 points. Hogan also led the Warriors with 12 rebounds.
Senior Drew Maynard (Lake Orion/Valdosta State) and junior Starvos Schizas (Athens, Greece/Kirtland CC) each put up 15 points apiece, while junior Zef Deda (Sterling Heights/Wayne CCC) scored a season-high 14 points.
The Warriors’ defense was led by Schizas, who had had steals, placing him 2nd in the nation (NAIA-DII) for most steals.
In game two, the Warriors made quick work of Redeemer University College cruising to a 73-46 victory.
Head Coach Klint Pleasant had to call off the dogs after heading into the half up 46-23. The Warriors held their largest lead of the evening at the 12:38 mark in the second half, leading by 36.
Maynard led the way with 19 points in only 22 minutes of play. Hogan added 12 points while senior Brad Norman (Bay City, MI/Delta CC) scored 11 for the Warriors (18-3).
