VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota used a late run to pull away Saturday afternoon and defeat Oakland University, 64-49, in a Summit League women’s basketball game in the Dakota Dome.

Peyton Aspey had a career-high 12 points to lead Oakland (8-11, 2-5) and Olivia Nash earned her Summit-League leading, sixth double-double of the season.

“We hung tight with them for 30 minutes,” said Oakland head coach Beckie Francis. “Down the stretch South Dakota grabbed the key rebounds and made the big shots, which made the difference in the game.”

Victoria Lipscomb hit a jumper to pull OU within one at 46-45 with 6:34 to play. South Dakota responded with a 3-pointer by Nicole Seekamp at the opposite end to launch the Coyotes on a 16-0 run that ended with a jumper by Halle Wangler with 41 seconds left.

Apsey hit her first career 3-pointer and finished with two triples, going 4-for-6 from the floor. Nash had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Lipscomb added a team-high five assists and the Golden Grizzlies shot 32.8 percent from the floor.

The first half was back-and-forth with four lead changes and four ties. The Golden Grizzlies erased an early seven-point deficit and took the lead on a layup by Elizabeth Hamlet. USD went on a quick run before Apsey hit a layup to make it 28-26 in favor of USD at the half.

After scoring just two points in the previous game, the Oakland bench responded with 12 points against South Dakota. Sinclair Russell led the OU reserves with four points and two rebounds.

The Golden Grizzlies will have a week to prepare for the final game of the current three-game road swing, taking on IPFW Saturday at the Gates Sports Center at 4:30 p.m.
