TUESDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Stoney Creek ices Hazel Park; Rochester torches Athens; Troy edges Pontiac

ROCHESTER — Rochester Stoney Creek received little resistance Tuesday from visiting Hazel Park, rolling to a convincing 73-37 OAA Gold Division victory over the Vikings.

The Cougars outscored Hazel Park 23-7 in the first quarter and 24-7 in the second frame to build a 47-14 lead at the half. Stoney Creek outscored the Vikings 26-23 over the final two quarters.

Eric Gilgenbach led a balanced effort for Stoney Creek with 14 points. Ben Temrowski added 10 points and Stephan Makowski chipped in with nine points for the Cougars.

Gary Turner scored 11 and both Semaj Thompson and Mike Stinson added six points apiece for Hazel Park (2-10, 0-4).

ROCHESTER 80, TROY ATHENS 58: Rochester remained in second place in the OAA White Division with this 22-point rout Tuesday of the host Red Hawks.

James Young nailed five 3-pointers and 8-of-10 free throws and finished with 31 points for the Falcons. Arben Camaj added 19 points and 10 rebounds and Jamar Randolph twined seven points for Rochester.

Rochester (10-2, 4-1) led just 19-17 after the first quarter but blew the game open with a 22-6 spurt in the second frame for a 41-23 lead at the half.

The Falcons continued to pour it on with a 23-14 spurt in the third quarter to go up 64-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Tin Shayoka scored 25 points, canning four 3-pointers, for Athens. Jeff Koch added nine points for the Red Hawks.

TROY 63, PONTIAC 59: Troy snapped a four-game losing skid with this four-point OAA Red Division win Tuesday.

The Colts (6-7, 4-3) clawed back from a 33-26 hole at the half by outscoring the Phoenix 37-26 in the second half.

Zak Noor scored 15 and Ben Horvath added 13 points for Troy.

Jarod Jones scored 20 and Javante Lavallis added 11 points for Pontiac (6-7, 1-5).

AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 70, PLYMOUTH CHRISTIAN 52L JohnVan Noord scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, in this MIAC Blue Division win Tuesday.

Austin Prantera added 12 points and Drew Losee scored 11 for Oakland Christian (7-5, 4-4), which swished 10 3-pointers in the contest.

Mike Murri scored 16 for Plymouth Christian.


PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 59, ANN ARBOR FR. GABRIEL RICHARD 45:
Notre Dame Prep moved to 7-5 overall with this CHSL win Tuesday.

Mitchell Olis scored 21 and Connor Verheyen added nine points for the Fighting Irish. Vinny Samularo chipped in with eight points, the same total as Jermaih Johnson for NDP, which led 31-11 at the half.

OXFORD 45, ROYAL OAK 41: Oxford went on the road Tuesday and returned home with this four-point OAA-Gold victory.

The Wildcats (5-7, 2-2) led 23-20 at the half and ee-29 through three quarters of play.

Devonte Bandoo scored 17 to lead Oxford. Michael Censullo added eight points and Alexander Heiss scored seven for Oxford.

Devin Carmen scored seven for Royal Oak (6-7, 1-3).
