MONDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL: Troy shows signs of life in win over Avondale

TROY — Playing in one of the state’s toughest leagues, Troy has seen i9ts fair share of ups and downs this season. Out of the league, the Colts have enjoyed more success.

Troy took down OAA White Division member Auburn Hills Avondale Monday night at home, posting a 66-56 victory

Troy took a 12-9 lead after the first quarter and maintained it down the stretch. The Colts outscored Avondale 16-14 in the second period for a 28-23 halftime lead, then used a 20-13 surge in the third stanza to build a 48-36 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Avondale (5-8) outscored Troy 20-18 in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already been done.

Ben Horvath led Troy with 16 points. Joe Leonard added 11 points, and both Nate Bladecki and Craig Duggan 10 chipped in with 10 points each for Troy (7-8).

Chris Barton was Avondale’s only player in double figures, scoring 15 points. Zarrick Sturgis added eight points and both Jabbar Mims and Eric Stubbs supplied seven points each for Avondale.
