BOWLING: Oxford rolls to sweep of Clarenceville, Troy Athens

OXFORD — Behind some impressive efforts, Oxford proved to be too much for visiting Livonia Clarence Tuesday in a non-conference bowling match.

The Wildcats girls team posted a 28-2 victory, while Oxford’s boys team managed a 16-14 victory.

After dropping two Baker games, Oxford’s boys posted games of 1058 and 1072 and won 6-fo-10 matches in singles play to pull out the narrow two-point overall triumph.

Sophomore Drew Pappas led the Wildcats with single games of 231 and 243. Sean Mckinley helped out with a fine 247 and Kyle Woody tossed a 214 for Oxford.

OXFORD SWEEPS TROY ATHENS

TROY — Oxford had little problems with Troy Athens Monday in an OAA Red Division bowling match, sweeping the Red Hawks.

Oxford’s girls posted a 25-5 victory, while the Wildcats rang up a 21-9 triumph over Athens at Troy Lanes.

Oxford’s girls posted 191 and 188 in the Baker games, while Allysa Hurlburt posted games of 223 and 178 and Caitlyn Wroblewski 169 and 223 for Oxford in match play. Hannah Farmer also tossed a fine game of 213 to aid the Wildcats’ effort.

Oxford’s boys dropped a 248-246 Baker contest. In match play, the Wildcats posted wins in 7-of-10 matches to prevail. Drew Pappas collected a 244, Jake DeLong added a 235 and Sean McKinley posted a 228 for the Wildcats.

“Both teams are bowling well right now,” offered Oxford coach J.r.Lafner. “We have a few matches left and our focus is very high. We have a chance to do real well down the stretch and in the year end tournaments.”
