FRIDAY’S BOYS BASKETBALL: Adams downs Avondale to remain perfect; Stoney Creel edges Royal Oak; Lutheran Northwest, Rochester record wins
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester Adams perfect season remained intact Friday night with another road victory.
The underrated Highlanders moved to 16-0 with a 73-59 OAA White Division triumph over host Auburn Hills Avondale.
Adams (16-0, 7-0) never trailed, opening up with an 18-6 run and never looking back. The Highlanders led 36-26 at the half and outscored the Yellowjackets (5-11, 2-5) by a 37-33 count in the second half.
Akhemji Williams scored 18 points to lead four Adams players in double figures. Jack Twitty added 13 points and both Zack Littleson and Ben Limb chipped in with 11 points each for the Highlanders.
Chris Barton scored 15 points and Jabaar Mims added 14 points for Avondale. Zarrick Sturgis chipped in with 11 points for the Yellowjackets.
ROCHESTER HILLS STONEY CREEK 49, ROYAL OAK 37: Stoney Creek used a 14-7 run in the first quarter, only to see Royal Oak do the same in the second frame to tie the game at 21-21 at the half.
The Cougars used an 18-6 third-quarter surge to take the lead for good, as Stoney Creek led 39-27 entering the fourth quarter. Both teams traded off 10 points each in the fourth stanza.
Patrick Mertz scored 14 to lead Stoney Creek (10-5, 6-1). Eric Gilgenbach added 10 points, Ben Temrowski followed with nine points and Charlie Carson chipped in with eight points for the Cougars.
Devin Carmen scored 14 for Royal Oak (7-8, 3-4)..
ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 62, BIRMINGHAM REOPER 53 (OT): Nathan Drews scored a season-high 32 points to lead Northwest to the MIAC Blue Division overtime win over the host Roughriders.
Lutheran Northwest outscored Roeper 13-4 in the extra session to prevail.
Northwest led 19-9 after the first quarter and 28-19 at the half. Roeper responded with a 16-11 surge in the third quarter and a 12-8 run in the fourth frame to tie the game at 49-49 at the end of regulation.
Josh Morrison added 17 points for the Crusaders.
Abe Hashwi scored 18 points for Roeper, while Graeme Schulman chipped in with 11 points for the Roughriders.
AUBURN HILLS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 35, KIMBALL LANDMARK ACADEMY 20: The Cougars cruised to the ISAC victory Friday with this home win over a third-year program.
Rajon Fair scored 18 points with15 rebounds for Auburn Hills Christian.
ROCHESTER 74, FERNDALE 28: Rochester raced out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and a 35-11 advantage by the half in this OAA White Division road rout of the Eagles.
The Falcons continued to pepper Ferndale with a 29-7 third-quarter surge and closed with a 10-7 run in the final frame.
James young led a balanced attack for Rochester (14-2, 6-1) with 23 points. Jamar Randolph added 14 points, Arben Camaj scored eight and Terron Dumars chipped in with six points for the Falcons.
Justin Kearney and Paroh Johnson scored eight apiece for Ferndale (3-12, 0-7).
