BOYS BASKETBALL: Fenton pulls clean sweep of Holly

LINDEN — Fenton posted the clean sweep of rival Holly this season, beating the Bronchos three times over the course of two months.

The third and final victory over Holly came during Monday’s Class A district opener at Linden High School, as the Tigers upended the Bronchos, 69-59, to advance to Wednesday’s district semifinals.

Fenton (19-1) rallied back from a 38-32 third quarter deficit to oust Holly.

Eric Readman scored a game-high 30 points, scoring 12 of his points in the fourth quarter, for Fenton. Mitch Shegos added 13 points and Damon Thomas chipped in with nine points for the Tigers.

Fenton led 16-7 after the first quarter, only to see Holly climb back with a 19-11 surge in the second quarter, leaving the score 27-26 at the half.

Fenton, which will face Ortonville Brandon in the district semifinals Wednesday, slowly pulled away in the second half, outscoring Holly 18-16 in the third quarter and 24-17 in the fourth quarter.

Kyle Woodruff scored 17 for Holly, while Joshua Simms added 14 points and Lance Copley scored 10 for the Bronchos.
