WATERFORD — Kara Holinski is only a sophomore, but she sank perhaps the biggest shot of her career Thursday.

Holinski hit the only shot of overtime, a three-pointer, and Birmingham Marian posted a 40-37 victory over Clarkston in a Class A regional final at Waterford Kettering.

The Mustangs (21-3) advance to Tuesday’s state quarterfinals at St. Clair Shores Lake Shore, where second-ranked Grosse Pointe South awaits the Mustangs. Clarkston had its 20-game win streak snapped and the Wolves finished 22-2.

Holinski finished with 13 points for Marian. Laura Bruton added 12 points and Bailey Thomas scored nine for the Mustangs.

Erika Davenport scored 17 to pace Clarkston. Delaney Kenny chipped in with nine points for the Wolves.

Clarkston led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and 21-16 at the half. Marian outscored the Wolves 13-6 in the third quarter for a 29-27 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Clarkston held a 10-8 edge in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
