SATURDAY’S BOYS LACROSSE: Notre Dame Prep downs Troy Athens

PONTIAC — Pontiac Notre Dame Prep built a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and the Fighting Irish cruised to a 10-3 non-league boys lacrosse victory over Troy Athens Saturday afternoon.

Max Blank scored the first goal for Athens at 11:11 of the first quarter to give the Red Hawks their only lead.

The Fighting Irish took control after that with Kyle Beauregard, Matt Pushek and Connor Cervone each scoring a goal before the end of the first quarter. Andrew Wodrich assisted Pushek with his goal.

Troy Athens wouldn’t score again until the third quarter when Matt Poulos scored on a feed from Max Blank. Matt Dougherty also scored on a feed from Luke Spinek to cut the lead down for the Red Hawks.

Notre Dame Prep saw a second goal from Beauregard, who also had three assists on the day, in the second period. Jeszke, Gaven Bertram, Frank Sardelli and Zack Hinsberger all added one goal each, while Alec Naseef turned in two goals and one assist for the day for NDP.

Fighting Irish goalie Peter Eichhorn had six saves in the first half with Zachary Nantau taking over goalie duties for the Irish in the second half and logging four saves.
