NOTABLES: The Wolves return eight of 16 players from last year’s state runner-up team. Clarkston is coming off the school’s best four-year run which included a state championship in 2011. This team will be a lot younger, but beaming with talented prospects. This could very well be another top-five team in the state, as the pipeline appears to be replenishing just fine.

NOTABLES: Holly saw its string of 29 straight league titles come to a halt last season, as the Bronchos tied Fenton in a dual match then finished second behind Fenton at both the league and regional tournaments. Holly must replace nine players and welcome back five starters plus two exhibition players from last season. This means a new opportunity for several players hoping to keep the Bronchos. Holly is shooting for its 14th straight state finals appearance.

While the top portion of the lineup was vacated, several returnees gained valuable experience. A pair of all-league players, plus two capable freshmen are also in the lineup. This team could surprise by season’s end and a much better league and regional finish are a possibility.

Ortonville Brandon

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 6-3-0, 5-2-0 FML (third).

LEAGUE FINISH: Third at Flint Metro League tournament (46 points); third overall (12 points).

Oxford will compete in the OAA Blue Division, along with Royal Oak, Auburn Hills Avondale, Pontiac, Southfield, Southfield Lathrup, Ferndale and Hazel Park. Expectations are not sky high, as most of the players are relatively new to the sport.

HEAD COACH: Phil Riberio, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 0-7-0, 0-7-0 OAA Blue Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Eighth at OAA Blue Division Tournament (11 points); Eighth overall in final league standings (two points).

NOTABLES: With only three seniors last season, the Phoenix took their lumps, but are poised to move up the OAA-Blue Division standings with a more seasoned bunch.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Peter Riley.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 9-0-0, 5-0-0 CHSL-AA Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Fifth at CHSL A-B League Tournament (nine points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Second at D-4 Almont regional (22 points).

NOTABLES: The Fighting Irish are coming off their best season to date with a seventh-place finish at the Division 4 state finals. This season Notre Dame Prep bumps up to Division 3 and will find the pathway to the state finals a little tougher with a much tougher regional on deck. The Irish should contend in the CHSL-AA Division this season.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Jerry Murphy, ninth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 2-8-0, 0-6-0 OAA Red Division (seventh overall).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fourth at D-1 Rochester regional (15 points).

NOTABLES: Rochester suffered through a massive rebuilding season last spring, finishing last in the OAA-Red after graduating nine players from the 2011 squad. The Falcons still managed a fourth-place finish at the regional a year ago. Rochester has dropped down to the OAA-White Division and will enter a wide-open race.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Greg Burks, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-2-1, 5-1-1 OAA White Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: First at OAA White Division tournament (51 points); first overall in final standings (14 total points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Second at Rochester regional (23 points).

KEY LOSSES: Alex Martin (No. 4 singles); Charlene Coutteau, (No. 1 doubles).

NOTABLES: Adams recorded a state finals berth last season and with the return of a bevy of talent, the Highlanders look to make a consecutive trip at season’s end. This year’s regional will be much tougher, as Clarkston, Rochester Adams, Farmington Hills Mercy, West Bloomfield, Rochester and Rochester Stoney Creek are all in the same 10-school region. The Highlanders won’t be able to defend their league championship, where they have been bumpe3d up to a loaded OAA Red Division this season.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Angela Snitgen-Trecola, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 3-6-1, 1-5-1 OAA White Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Sixth at OAA White Division tournament (25 points); sixth overall in final league standings (four total points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fifth at D-1 Rochester regional (eight points).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

DOUBLES LINEUP: Genevive LaCrosse, sr. (No. 1); Illissa Schutzbach, jr. (No. 1); Christina Morelli, jr. (No. 2); Anna Melaragni, jr. (No. 2); Lauren Kuzdak, sr. (No. 3); Miranda Catallo, jr. (No. 3); Diana Echeverri, jr. (No. 4); Becky Freed, sr. (No. 4); Allyson Boe, soph. (No. 4); Tabea Kleinstueck, jr. (No. 5); Maddy Howell, sr. (No. 5).

NOTABLES: After a rebuilding year last spring, Stoney Creek looks to make a jump up the standings this season with a talented freshman playing No. 1 singles and nine total returning latter winners on a 15-player roster. The jury is out to see if this is a state-caliber team, but one likely scenario is this team is better overall than last year.

Troy

HEAD COACH: Brian Miska, second season.

REGIONAL FINISH: Second at D-1 Grosse Pointe South regional (24 points).

STATE FINISH: Eighth at D-1 state finals (11 points).

SINGLES LINEUP: Amanda Guo, jr. (No. 1); Abbey Rice, soph. (No. 2); Arushi Mahajan, soph. (No. 3); Tiffany Chen, soph. (No. 4).

DOUBLES LINEUP: Katie Collins, sr. (No. 1); Brittany Friesen, soph. (No. 1); Hope Keating, sr. (No. 2; did not play last season); Claire Keating, fr. (No. 2); Lillian Laing, jr. (No. 3); Deepthi Devireddy, fr. (No. 3); Katie Forche, jr. (No. 4); Leena Penumalee, fr. (No. 4); Anna Balas, soph. (No. 5); Julianne Fava, sr. (No. 5).

KEY LOSSES: Tonya Malyarenko (No. 1 doubles); Shruthi Chandra (No. 2 doubles); Morgan Zander (No. 2 doubles);

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Eric Shipp, eighth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-2-1, 5-1-1 OAA White Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Second at OAA White Division Tournament (48 points); second overall in final standings (12 total points).

REGIONAL FINISH: Third at D-1 Grosse Pointe South regional (17 points).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

SINGLES LINEUP: Iris Su, sr. (No. 1); Morgan Purvis, sr. (No. 2); Elisabeth Yang, sr. (No. 3); Grace Wu, soph. (No. 4).

DOUBLES LINEUP: Toni Akula-Joy Goldschmidt (No. 1); Shirley Lu-Hope Ma (No. 2); Sarah Yee-Hanka Lekovic  (No. 3); Kim Truong-Jiwoo Choe (No. 3); Hitomi Li-Ninia Chen  (No. 5).

NOTABLES: Troy Athens graduated seven of the top 12 players from last season, including most of its top overall players. The OAA White Division race will be wide open, so if the Red Hawks get production from its seven newcomers, Athens could be a contender once again in the league. As for the state tournament, the Red Hawks missed by just a point last season. Athens is hoping to build enough firepower to make the cut for the fourth time in six seasons.
