Below are the 2013 girls soccer team capsules for schools located in the coverage area for www.northoaklandsports.com. To submit information on your team, email Senior Editor Dan Stickradt at Dan.Stickradt@northoaklandsports.com

Auburn Hills Avondale

HEAD COACH: Doug Steinard, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: Not available.

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-2 district semifinals to Birmingham Marian.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA white Division; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Jessie Creech, sr. CM (committed to Bowling Green); Colleen Vincent, sr. F; Sarah Sonego, sr. CM; Tailor Mathes, jr. F; Madilyn Donaghy, jr. D; Madison Duncan, jr. CM (committed to Louisiana); Deanna Hill, jr. D; Alyssa Chapman, jr. F; Ali Hartman, soph. D.

OTHER RETURNEES: Erin VanSloten, sr. M; Abby Oliver, sr. GK; Alyssa Smith, soph. D; Emilly Krupp, soph. G.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Emma Hanawalt, fr. D; Emma Ahern, fr. F; Alexa Alonso, fr. M; Jennifer Sroka, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Only graduated two starters.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES:After 20 seasons, David Muczynski resigned last fall from coaching, leaving the door open for new coach Doug Steinard. The cupboard was not left bare, as the Yellowjackets should field a team worthy of an OAA White division title run. Avondale is again in a loaded district, so postseason success will be a stretch. But this team is destined to step up a notch after a rebuilding season in2012.

WITH AUTHORITY: Sarah Mazur and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep reached the Division 3 state semifinals last season and should be one of the area’s top teams this spring. Photo | Larry McKee, www.lmckeephotography.com | lmckeephotography@comcast.net

Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Sarah Wasilk, eighth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 10-7-4, 6-1-3 OAA White Division (second).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 district finals to Grand Blanc.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA White Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Katie Miller, sr. G (All-District, All-OAA); Emma Eriksen, sr. D (All-OAA); Brooke Henney, soph. D; Lindsey Renkiewicz, sr. CM; Alison Roberts, sr. F

OTHER RETURNEES: Madison Herbert, soph. M/F; Shelby Hopper, jr. M; Kayla Grzesiak, jr. D/G; Meghan Grubenau, jr. D; Morgan Todd, sr. F (sat out last season due to ACL tear).

KEY NEWCOMERS: Ashley Miles, fr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Lindsey Adams, M (graduated); Alexis Shamoun (playing ECNL club ball).

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Clarkston was only a couple of points away from a league championship last season after being dropped down from the OAA-Red Division. With one of the area’s top goalkeepers and several key players back in uniform, there’s reason to believe that the Wolves will again be in the hunt for a league crown this season.

Holly

HEAD COACH: Michael Steibel, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 2-14-2, 2-5-2 Flint Metro League (sixth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-2 district semifinals to Fenton.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Flint Metro League; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Autumn Brendel, jr. D; Megan Kennedy, jr. M; Ann Fetzer, soph. D; Ellie Curtis, jr. G.

OTHER RETURNEES: Rachel St. John, soph. M; Diana Frasier, sr. F; Haley Ruff , jr. F; Maddie Huber, jr. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Kristin Hansel, fr. F; Hayley Hild, fr. D; Madison Brack, fr. M; Olivia Allman, jr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Paige Walsh, Jerra McGowen, Natalie Cieslak, Kayla Skopek.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Holly only won two games last season and graduated seven starters from that team. That could be a blessing or curse. The Bronchos do counter with a nice group of freshmen that should make an impact and help this team up a few rungs in the FML standings. Throw in eight holdovers that saw significant minutes and this team hopes to turn the corner after a couple of down years.

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Randy McCoy, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-7-5, 0-5-2 OAA Red Division (sixth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost to Grand Blanc in D-1 district semifinals (2-1).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Carlie Deyton, sr. F/M; Erin Chlebek, soph. M/F; Madz Ham soph. D; Hannah Kish, sr. M (fourth-year starter; Pfeifer University); Caitlynn Auspitz, sr. M; Nicole Krier, jr. M; Arleigh Zimmerman, soph. D.

OTHER RETURNEES: Jessie Storts, soph. M; Kate Llewellyn, soph. D; Summer Deyton, soph. F/M; Kassidy Higgins, jr. F; Jessie Reichenbach, soph. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Lauryn Auspitz, fr. G; Emily Gregory, soph. G; Jewel Karrip, soph. D; Nikki Liogas, soph. D/M.

KEY LOSSES: Katie Rohlfs, D; Hallie Barnes, G (Adrian College); Hannah Cady, jr. M (ECNL club soccer and running track); Emily Purdy, jr. M (ECNL club soccer).

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: While the Dragons lost two key players to graduation, they also lost two more that opted just to play club ball. That will hurt, but not as much as one would think. There are seven returning starters and 12 overall returnees and the Dragons are hungry to return to a high level program after being hampered by injuries the past two seasons. Like every other team in the OAA-Red, Lake Orion is solid and will be in its fair share of games.

Ortonville Brandon

HEAD COACH: Dennis Shannon.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 9-12-1, 1-6-2 Flint Metro League (seventh).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Def. Owosso; lost to Linden in D-2 district semifinals (3-0).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Flint Metro League; MHSAA Division 2.

RETURNING STATERS: Andrea Banner, sr. D (two-time FML Honorable Mention); Alyssa Sebring, sr. D; Madison Puleo, jr. M (FML Honorable Mention); McKenna Wagner, sr. D; Danielle Hart, jr. M; Gabby Mathes, jr. M; Sam Bageris, soph. D; Sierra Dickens, soph. M; Sophia Sebring, soph. F.

OTHER RETURNEES: Alanna Carpenter, sr. F; Hanna Lovelace, jr. M; Natasha Krivak, jr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Randi Jannette, fr. D; Alora McCoy, jr. F; Sara Nutter, jr. G; Hannah Lapanowski, fr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Bridget O’Shea, M (All-State Honorable Mention); Kaitlyn Clark, G (three-year starter).

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The good news is that the Blackhawks return nine starters. The bad news is that Brandon must replace is top two most gifted players from last season, when the Blackhawks suffered through a rebuilding year. If Brandon can find success in a new goalkeeper and the rest of the lineup molds together, the numbers say that the Blackhawks will climb the league standings in 2013.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Larry Ferris, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-12-1, 1-8-01 OAA White Division (seventh).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 district opener to Flushing (3-2).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA White Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Shelby Hruska, sr. F/M; Samantha Medici, jr. D/M; Samantha Pastewski, sr. M/D; Emma Richmond, sr. M/D; Caitlyn Ulinski, jr. M/D; Marina Ibarra, sr. M/F; Darien Bandel, jr. G; Alana Carroll, sr. D/F; Haley Hill, jr. F; Sabrina Doslak, soph. D/F; Melissa Gierak, soph. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Katrese Moll, fr. F/M; Brittany Labombard, jr.M/F; Emily Kargetta, soph. D/M; Kimberly Mastsumotto, jr. G/D; Christina Medici, fr. M/F; Karina Parker, fr. M/F

KEY LOSSES: Paige Brinker, D; Ellen Saville, D.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Wildcats have been decimated by injuries each of the past two seasons, so staying healthy in 2013 is one of Oxford’s main goals. If that happens, then Oxford should be one of the better teams in the OAA-White and improve upon winning only seven games last season. There are 11 players back that started games last season, only two players that saw significant playing time graduated and a solid castoff newcomers sets up the Wildcats to have a much-improved season over a year ago.

Pontiac Academy of Excellence

HEAD COACH: Marie Anderson, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: Overall record not available; plays independent schedule.

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-4 districts.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Independent; MHSAA Division 4.

RETURNING STATERS: Giselle Rivera-Torres, sr. M; Karli White, soph. M; Precious Hadley, jr. F; Jazman Nichols, jr. D; Liz Marie Negron, soph. M.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Lashon Mays, fr. F; Di’asia Turner, soph. F; Allyson Vaughn, jr. F/M.

KEY LOSSES: Lost six starters to graduation.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The program is entering its fourth season and has a new coach in Marie Anderson. Like a lot of small schools in the area, there are some talented players, although many athletes on the team do not play outside of high school

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Jim Stachura, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 14-6-2, 6-3-1 CHSL-AA Division (first).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Won district and regional championships; lost in D-3 state semifinals to Flint Powers Catholic (2-0).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: CHSL-AA Division; MHSAA Division 3.

RETURNING STATERS: Taylor Timko, jr. M (All-State First Team; 50 goals in 2 seasons, including  29 last year; verbal commit to Michigan);  Alex Arnoldy, sr. G (All-State Second Team; signed with Indianer University-Pa.); Savannah Baumgart, sr. D (fourth-year varsity player); Lindsay Klei, jr. F; Anna Terzano, sr. D; Sarah Pieciak, soph. D; Leah McGrai, sr. M; Sarah Mazur, soph. M; Christine Scheer, soph. M.

OTHER RETURNEES: Lauren Gunterman, jr. D; Gina Cannon, jr. M; Erica Siatczynski, jr. D; Elise Pearl, sr. D; Mackenzie Fahr, sr. F; Bella Galloway, jr. F; Taylor Stinson, sr. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Hannah Zapczynski, fr. M; Rosella LoChirco, fr. M/D; Erika Weist, fr. M; Francesca Accurso, jr. M/F.

KEY LOSSES: Jenn Klei, F (All-State Second Team); Ana Gomez, M (All-State Honorable Mention; Olivet College); Megan Bricely, soph. G (transferred to Birmingham Marian); Bridget Parise, jr. M (moved to Philadelphia).

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Fighting Irish enjoyed their best season to date last spring, winning league, district and regional championships and reaching the Final Four for just the second time in school history. With most of the key components back, a similar season could be in the works. Notre Dame Prep has all the right makings of a championship-style team.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Cliff Brandemier, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 11-8-1, 7-5-0 OAA Red Division (sixth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 pre-district to Rochester Adams (1-0).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Stephanie Heber, sr. G (All-State Second Team; signed with Seton Hall); Ellie Grupenhoff, soph. D; Jenna Malestzke, sr. D; Sarah Egbert, sr. D/M; Maddie Chilcote, sr. M; Aubrey Konal, sr. M/F; Jenny Goethals, sr. F; Sofia Farah, sr. F.

OTHER RETURNEES: Brynn Barton, jr. D; Maddie Moote, jr. M; Gemma Najar, jr. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Zo Schultz, fr. M/F; Merideth Anness, fr. F; Maria Broecker, fr. M; Hannah Chilcote, fr. M; Angela Lekoisitis, fr. D; Alex Devilling, jr. M; Oliva Bennett, jr. D; Nicole White, jr. D; Sam Hawke, jr. M.

KEY LOSSES: Mckenzie Chilcote, D; Lindsey Larivee, D; Maria Lepore, M; Abby Rawlings, F; Colleen Boreo, F.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Not too many are talking about Rochester being a factor in the league race or capable of making a long postseason run, based on the depth of the OAA-Red or the district the Falcons will participate. Perhaps they should. Rochester has one of the state’s top goalkeepers, speed, eight players that started games last season, 11 total returnees and a deep and talented freshmen class that is already making an impact as part of a 4-0-0 start.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Aaron Donaghy, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 15-2-1, 9-2-1 OAA Red Division (second).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Division 1 state semifinals to Okemos (1-0, 2OT).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Mackenzie Barber, sr. F; Ali Reed, sr. M; Jenny Rosonke, jr. F; Tiffany Buckler, jr. D; Shannon McDevitt, jr. D.

OTHER RETURNEES: Martha Ridgewary, sr. G; Katie Milke, sr. D/M; Julia Rodgers, sr. F; Rachel Wehbe, sr. M; Lara Iaderosa, jr. D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: There are several players up from the junior varsity.

KEY LOSSES: The Highlanders graduated 12 players, including Kylie Nylen (Western Michigan), Merlin Beckwith and Hannah Lee.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Adams graduated over half of its team that reached the state semifinals last season, meaning the Highlanders do have some question marks in the lineup. Considering that Adams has played girls soccer since 1983 and the only year the team finished under five-hundred was 1995, this year’s team will find a way to stay in the upper echelon of the OAA-Red and competitive against fellow state powers.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: Bryan Mittelstadt, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 16-4-1, 8-3-1 OAA Red Division (fourth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 district finals to Rochester Adams (2-1).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Jamie Midgley, soph. F (All-State Honorable Mention); Maria Zandi, soph. M (All-District); Maddie Toth, soph. D/M (All-District); Maddie Schupbach, jr. M (All-State Honorable Mention); Carly Harvey, soph. D; Sidney Inscho, jr. D; Carina Wilden, jr. M; Halee Michel, jr. G; Cierra Inscho, sr. D.

OTHER RETURNEES: Allison Markaity, soph. M/D; Stephanie Kittel, sr. M; Cat Mechler, sr. F; Nikki Spurlin, jr. M; Cameron Schmidt, sr. G.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Carly Cerny, soph. M/D; Taylor Paradoski, fr. F; Courtney Solek, soph. D/M; Alyse Ketner, jr. D/M; Laure Costentino, jr. G.

KEY LOSSES: Joanie Seija, M (Oakland University); Lauren Bolhuis, D (Florida Tech); Maddie Lucci, F (Michigan State).

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Could this be the year that Stoney Creek makes a run to the final Four in Division 1? The Cougars are in the state’s toughest district, but have all the tools to contend at all levels. They have been tabbed as favorites in the OAA-Red and a 6-0-0 start is an indication that this team is for real. In its 11th year as a school, this may be the most talented team yet.

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

HEAD COACH: Tony Chilla, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 4-13-1, 1-9-0 MIAC Blue Division (sixth).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-4 districts

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: MIAC Blue Division; MHSAA Division 4.

RETURNING STATERS: Laura Doede, sr. D; Emma Vieregge, sr. M; Megan Rousso, sr. D; Erin O’Keefe, jr. M; Lexi Stroeters, jr. M; Amanda Klebber, sr. M; Heila Charen, sr. F/M; Anna Hohnstadt, jr.G.

OTHER RETURNEES: Katie Rassmusson, jr. F.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Kira Haag, fr. D; Laura Hohnstadt, fr. D.

KEY LOSSES: Heidi Luedtke, F; Megan Hamilton, M.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: After suffering through a major rebuilding season last season under a new coach, the Crusaders have already shown mass signs of improvement with a pair of shutouts and over 15 goals scored in four games. This team could emerge as the area’s most improved squads this season. There are eight returning starters on a 20-player roster and a hunger to right the ship.

Troy

HEAD COACH: Brian Zawislak, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 19-3-3, 7-3-1 OAA Red Division (second).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: District and regional champions; lost in D-1 state finals to Okemos (2-0).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Alison Holland, sr. G (signed with Memphis; holds numerous school records; All-State First Team); Jamie Hawkey, sr. D; Jenna Cabelof, jr. M;
Sarah Troccoli, soph. M; Erin Wrubel, sr. M/D; Phylisha Drayton, jr. M/F
Madison Hirsch, sr. F (Eastern Michigan).

OTHER RETURNEES: Nadine Bratu, sr. M/D; Brittany Guitar, fr. D; Sara Wideman, sr. M; Kayla Porter, sr. M/F; Grace Goodrich, sr. M; Natalie Longroy, jr. M
Michelle Babst, jr D; Addison Bouzide, soph. g.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Katie Luongo, jr. D; Dani Mukomel, jr. M; Brooke Bogdanovich, jr. F; Sydney Alexander, soph. M/D.

KEY LOSSES: Irene Young, M/F; Jenn Busk, D; Rachel Shamoun, D; Alyssa Cabelof, F.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Troy has started the season slow, due in part to not having Miss Soccer Irene Young (Louisville) on the field and the other due to several injuries to key players. Once the colts are at full strength and find their rhythm, there’s no reason not to believe that this team can’t make another long run in the postseason. Troy has reached the state finals each of the past two years and six times overall.

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Todd Heugh, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-10-2, 4-7-1 OAA Red Division (seventh).

LAST SEASON’S STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in D-1 pre-district to Troy (1-0).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

RETURNING STATERS: Liz Abro, sr. M (Western Michigan; All-State Third Team); Gabby Mancini, sr. M (Eastern Michigan); Kendall Wachowksi, jr. F (11 goals, five assists last year); Morgan Behn, sr. D (Siena Heights); Amelia Linska, jr. D; Alyssa Cowper, jr. F/D.

OTHER RETURNEES: Morgan Duncan, sr. G; Rachel Martens, sr. D/M; Shannon Birney, soph. M; Jasmine Lim, sr. D; Katie Lewis, soph. D; Quinn Bezenah, jr. M/D.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Amanda Harris, fr. G; Claire Noord, soph. M.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: For only the second time in Athens’ illustrious history, the Red Hawks dropped below the five-hundred mark in a major rebuilding year. That was in Todd Heugh’s first season. The Red Hawks should be much-improved with several of its top players back and have shown so with some quality results in the first couple weeks of the season.
