Auburn Hills Avondale

HEAD COACH:  Jim Maley, sixth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-0, 5-0 OAA Blue Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Won league meet; won overall league title.

COUNTY FINISH: 11th at D-I County (326).

DISTRICT FINISH: Second at Heather Highlands (326).

REGIONAL FINISH: Second at The Orchards (323).

STATE FINISH:  14th at D-2 state finals (335-331-666).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Blue Division; MHSAA Division 2.

KEY RETURNEES: Nikolas Senkowski, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Ryan Lee, jr.; Sam Jacobson, fr.; Jake Vencha, soph.; Colin Miller, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Spencer Jacobson, Blake Blomberg, Steve Carter, Troy May.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Avondale is coming off its best-ever two-year run which both ended with state qualifying teams. The good news is that Avondale has been heading in the right direction. The bad news is that the Yellowjackets will have to reload quickly if its current upward trend continues. Avondale returns only one golfer from its top seven.

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian

HEAD COACH: Randy Johnson, 12th season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 15-2, 7-0 MIAC.

LEAGUE FINISH: Won league meet; won overall league title.

COUNTY FINISH: Eighth at D-I County (322).

DISTRICT FINISH: First at Heather Highlands (308).

REGIONAL FINISH: First at Wyndgate regional (327).

STATE FINISH: Fourth at D-4 state finals (321-321-642).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Michigan Independent Athletic Conference; MHSAA Division 4.

KEY RETURNEES: John VanNoord, jr. (All-State); Spencer Haupert, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Aaron Kostich, Austin Miller, Nathum Tesfra, Jimmy Kern.

KEY LOSSES: Zach Preuss (three-time All-State); Tyler Coyne (All-State); Brandon Deletka.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Lancers have emerged as a model of consistency the past decade, reaching the state finals five straight years with four straight top-five finishes. Oakland Christian won the state title in 2011 and finished fourth in 2012 but must replace over half of its roster.

Clarkston

HEAD COACH: Pete Gallagher.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: No dual meets.

LEAGUE FINISH: Fourth at league meet (320); sixth in overall league standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 14th at D-I County (329).

DISTRICT FINISH: Seventh at Bald Mountain (314).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division.

KEY RETURNEES: Jack Alli, sr.; Nick Badgley, jr.; Alec Genter, jr.; Brenden Graham, soph.; Nick Surovic, sr.; Chad Karuman, jr..; Alex McIntosh, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: TJ Craven, soph.; Andrew Gibson, jr.; Mitch Rogowski, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Jimmy Delnick (three-time all-league; regional qualifier); Dan Corazza

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Clarkston was somewhat erratic last season. The Wolves put together some find team rounds of golf but were not consistent and being in a loaded league and district. That meant Clarkston often settled for a middle-of-pack finishes at tournaments and missed the regional by two strokes. The Wolves only lost two players to graduation, so it will be a large cast of returnees’ task of righting the ship.

Holly

HEAD COACH: Doug Johnson, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 1-9, 0-8 Flint Metro League.

LEAGUE FINISH: Ninth at Flint Metro League tournament; ninth in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 13th D-II County.

DISTRICT FINISH: Eight at Bald Mountain (360).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Flint Metro League; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: Kyle Pepper, jr. (regional qualifier); Austin Miner, sr. (regional qualifier); William Moller, jr. (regional qualifier); Phil Samson, sr.; Mitchell Hughes, soph.; Austin Moller, jr.; Connor Patterson, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Gunnar LaFave, sr.; Zach Goodrich, jr.; Samuel Johnson, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Greg Hooper, Jake Harless, Brett Thompson.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Holly showed signs of life at the end of last season, having three regional qualifiers despite a dismal regular season which saw the Bronchos finish last in its league and eighth at the district. The only three players that graduated didn’t play in many tournaments and there are seven total returnees this season. Of the 10 players on this year’s roster, only two are seniors, meaning this team is built for the future.

Lake Orion

HEAD COACH: Monty Gallagher, 12th season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: No dual matches.

LEAGUE FINISH: Fifth at league meet (321); second overall in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Fifth at D-I County (319).

DISTRICT FINISH: Second at Bald Mountain (300).

REGIONAL FINISH: Tied-fourth at Boulder Pointe (316).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: Alex Waelchli, sr. (All-State Honorable Mention; signed with Oakland); Mason Gorris, sr.; Schuyler Werth, soph.; Griffin Beeler, jr.; Ben Gorcyca, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Patrick Cummins, soph.; Ryan Kaczor, sr.; Alex Giwa, jr.; Dalton Pecar, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Tyler Dragoo, Ryan McKeon, Casey Vandergraff.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Back-to-back near misses, including fourth at the regional and two strokes out of a state finals berth last season has the Dragons hungry. Lake Orion only lost one player from its top five, so the experience is there to make this team be a threat all season. The Dragons just need to rise to the occasion at the regional level to play on the season’s final weekend.

Ortonville Brandon

HEAD COACH: Tony Trupiano.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD:

LEAGUE FINISH:

COUNTY FINISH: 22nd at D-I County (347).

DISTRICT FINISH: Fifth at flint Elks (328).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fourth at Pohl Cat (334).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Flint Metro League; MHSAA Division 2.

KEY RETURNEES: Tyler Lewis, sr. (state qualifier); Lyrie Nazer, sr.; Jake Selak, sr.; Jake Heath, sr.; David Baldwin, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Several newcomers on the roster.

KEY LOSSES: Ben Stowers, Brent Loviska, Bruce Bayley.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Brandon finished only two strokes behind Petoskey at the regional last season. The good news is that the team’s lone individual state qualifier and five total players are back. The bad news is one of the top two players has graduated. Brandon has become quite more competitive the past few years and there is no signs that won’t continue this season. Can the Blackhawks make the state finals? Someone is going to have to step up and replace Stowers in the lineup. The pathway is going to be a lot tougher as Brandon has been bumped up enrollment-wise to Division 1.

Oxford

HEAD COACH: Terry Kelly.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 6-1, 5-1 OAA Blue Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Second at OAA Blue Division league tournament; second in overall standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 16th at D-I County (333).

DISTRICT FINISH: Seventh at Bald Mountain district (314).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Blue Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: JJ Lewis, jr. (regional qualifier); Matt Prince, soph.; Doug Schultz, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES: Nick Hocker (All-State); Chris Brooks (regional qualifier); Nolan Chapman; Dave Pearlmann.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: After finishing 10th in the state in 2011, Oxford dipped slightly last season and failed to advance out of a loaded district by two strokes. The Wildcats lost an All-State player and four total from the roster, so newer players are going to have to plug some holes and consistently shoot quality scores to keep Oxford relevant in its league and district.

Pontiac

HEAD COACH:

LAST SEASON’S RECORD:

LEAGUE FINISH: Finished fourth in final OAA Gold Division standings.

COUNTY FINISH: D-II County

DISTRICT FINISH: 12th at Bald Mountain (463).

REGIONAL FINISH: Did not qualify.

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Gold Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: DeAndre Adams, sr.; Nou Chang, sr.; Cash Perez, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS:

KEY LOSSES: None.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Pontiac finished middle of the pack in its league last season. What hurts the Phoenix is numbers, not always having 4-5 players available for tournaments. A realistic goal for this program is to get more people out for golf, which could potentially help Pontiac improve upon its standing in the OAA-Gold.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

HEAD COACH: Steve Vecellio, second season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 5-3, 5-3 CHSL-AA Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: First overall in CHSL-AA Division.

COUNTY FINISH: 21st at D-I County (342).

DISTRICT FINISH: First at Pine Valley (325).

REGIONAL FINISH: First at Cracklewood G.C. (325).

STATE FINISH: Sixth at D-3 state finals (310-310-620).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: CHSL-AA Division; MHSAA Division 3.

KEY RETURNEES: Tyler Jackson, sr.; Ryan Lesser, soph.; Joe Bonanni, sr.; Mike Risi, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Jack Zohoury, jr.; Jeff Bullard, jr.; Pete Luccido, jr.; Hairskos Christian, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Aaron Knutson (three-time all-stater; last season’s state runner-up); Jack Peleman; Danny Craig; Mitch Wayne.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The fighting Irish are coming off one of their best seasons in recent history. NDP must replace four of its top eight, including its top two players. There is still plenty of holdover talent, which should help in the postseason. The Irish won’t have a star, but will play with balance as several players are capable of shooting in the 70s and low 80s.

Rochester

HEAD COACH: Paul Marti.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: No dual matches.

LEAGUE FINISH: Second at league tournament (315); fourth overall in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 18th at D-I County (335).

DISTRICT FINISH: Sixth at Bald Mountain (312).

REGIONAL FINISH: Sixth at Flushing Valley (321).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: CHSL-AA Division; MHSAA Division 3.

RETURNING STATERS: Mike Murri, jr.; Ludovic Clavette-Lachapelle, jr.; Scott DiFilippo, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Michael Busse, soph.; Johnatham Wareham, jr.; Torre Rocco, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Eric Shyu (seventh at D-1 state finals); Sean O’Malley; Mike Santavica.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Falcons are usually a quality tram and last season Rochester was competitive throughout. The Falcons seemed to be a player off from contending at a variety of tournaments, perhaps from team consistency, and missed the state finals by only eight strokes.

Rochester Adams

HEAD COACH: Dan Picot

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: No dual matches.

LEAGUE FINISH: First at OAA-Red Division league meet (300); first in final league standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Ninth at D-I County (327).

DISTRICT FINISH: First at Bald Mountain (296).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fourth at Flushing Valley (314).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: Brandon Borrows, soph. (state qualifier); Marcus Robinson, sr.; Eric Lund, jr.; Eric Busa, sr.; Zach Adams, jr.; Cullen Connor, jr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Britton Skinner, jr.; Matt Donoughe, jr.; Greg Moran, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Ben VanOrman, Jamie Stanton, Drew White.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Much like Lake Orion, the Highlanders barely missed the state finals cut each of the past two seasons, including by just two strokes last season in a deep regional. Although three of the top six golfers departed, Adams still has plenty of talent to keep make them a factor in a variety of tournaments.

Rochester Stoney Creek

HEAD COACH: William Slade, fifth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: No dual matches.

LEAGUE FINISH: Third at OAA Red Division league meet (320); third overall in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Fourth at D-I County (318).

DISTRICT FINISH: Third at Bald Mountain (301).

REGIONAL FINISH: Eighth at Flushing Valley (325).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: Spencer Lendzion, sr.; Michael Doyle, jr.; Michael Linihan, jr.; Richie Ingle, sr.; Tyler Ducharme, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Connor McBride, jr.; Jack Dobat, jr.; Eric Autio, jr.; Greg Hozeski, jr.

KEY LOSSES: Ryan Jackson.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: The Cougars were one of the best teams in the area last season, although a rough outing at a very deep regional ended their season prematurely. With most of their players back, Stoney Creek has the talent to be one of the top teams at every tournament it enters this season.

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

HEAD COACH: Jimmy Mehlberg, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 8-5, 5-3 MIAC.

LEAGUE FINISH: Third at MIAC league meet; third in final league standings.

COUNTY FINISH: D-II County.

DISTRICT FINISH: Fourth at Heather Highlands (357).

REGIONAL FINISH: Third at Wyndgate (359).

STATE FINISH: 14th at D-4 state finals (377-369-743).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: Michigan Independent Athletic Conference; MHSAA Division 4.

KEY RETURNEES: Jameson Collar, sr.; Dan Sauer, soph.; Justin Tignanelli, sr.; Kyle Muthart, soph.; Greg Maynard, sr.; Evan Rouce, sr.; David Jehn, soph.; Justin Sylvester, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: None.

KEY LOSSES: Austin Kindsvater.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Eight of the top nine players are back from a program that has reached the D-4 state finals the past two years. The Crusaders have the experience. Can they make the state finals cut for a third consecutive season, which would be a school first? If Northwest plays the same way, based on the school’s in their district and regional, there should be a chance.

Troy

HEAD COACH:

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: John Getzan.

LEAGUE FINISH: Sixth at OAA Red Division league tournament (333); Fifth overall in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: 15th at D-I County (331).

DISTRICT FINISH: Fourth at Cherry Creek (326).

REGIONAL FINISH: Third at The Orchards

STATE FINISH: 15th at D-1 state finals (336-329-665).

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Red Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: Malek Singh, soph.; Christian Harnishfeger, jr.; Zach Bauer, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Nikhil Vedulla, Vishal Reddy, Jimmy McQuiston, Steve Zacharias.

KEY LOSSES: Jeff Holmes, Brett St. Cyr, James Heichel.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Troy was an average team last season, but rose to the occasion at the right time with some of its best rounds at the district and regional tournaments to make the state finals for the second straight year. The Colts welcome back three of its top players from last season. If they can remain healthy, unlike last season, and play more consistent, then another ticket could be punched.

Troy Athens

HEAD COACH: Dan Cooper, first season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD:

LEAGUE FINISH: Fourth in final OAA Blue Division standings.

COUNTY FINISH: D-II County.

DISTRICT FINISH: Third at Cherry Creek (325).

REGIONAL FINISH: Ninth at The Orchards (339).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Blue Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: Bryan Lawson, jr.; Alex Wojcik, jr.; Matt Bell, sr.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Dylan Katora, Jack Stover, Josh Burbano, Colin Carrund.

KEY LOSSES: Jason Wang, Jon Woo.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: Athens graduated its top two players from a squad that showed signs of inconsistency. If the Red Hawks are going to take the next step, then some younger players are going to need to step up. There are too many quality teams that making it out of a regional is extremely difficult.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes-

Clarkston Everest Collegiate Unified

HEAD COACH: Dave Smith, fourth season.

LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 7-3, 5-1 CHSL-Intersectional Division.

LEAGUE FINISH: Third at CHSL-Intersectional; third overall in final standings.

COUNTY FINISH: Sixth at D-II County (345).

DISTRICT FINISH: Fifth at Heather Highlands (361).

REGIONAL FINISH: Fifth at The Wyndgate (361).

STATE FINISH: Did not qualify.

CONFERENCE/DIVISION FOR 2013: OAA Blue Division; MHSAA Division 1.

KEY RETURNEES: David Smith, sr. (state qualifier); Ben Bates, sr.; Owen McMahon, jr.; David Shoultz, jr.; Danny McMahon, soph.

KEY NEWCOMERS: Tyler Rozwadowski, fr.; Clay Senerius, fr.; Nick Grenn, fr.

KEY LOSSES: Patrick Nalepa, Sam Bellestri.

OUTLOOK/NOTABLES: This is a team on the rise. Although two of the top six departed, there are five returnees plus a strong freshman class that could help. If this team is going to qualify for the state finals, this could be the year. Last season WOLL-CEC missed by only two strokes.
