ROCHESTER HILLS — Throughout his running career at Rochester Adams, Stephen Biebelhausen has always been one of the Highlanders’ best. As a senior, he is trying to make sure that he is also one of the state’s best distance runners.

Biebelhausen will run his final race in an Adams uniform this weekend at the Division 1 track and field state finals at East Kentwood. He has excelled in every way during his tenure.

The four-year varsity veteran in both cross country and track is seeded third in the 3,200 meters with a 9:18.80 clocking at the recent Ortonville Brandon regional. His effort is a school record.

“I have worked hard and put in the miles to step up,” said Bieblehausen following Friday’s Oakland County Championships.

The 5-foot-6 Biebelhausen also won the Oakland County meet in the 3,200 and finished second at the OAA Red Division league meet. He’s run a sub two-minute split in the 3,200 relay several times during his career and popped a 4:24 effort in the 1,600 meters.

In cross-country, he is a four-time all-league and all-region finisher and also a four-time state qualifier. His best race came as a senior, where he ran seventh at the D-1 state finals in 15:26.4, one of the fastest times in school history.

“He’s earned it,” admitted Adams coach Eric Lohr. “Stephen has worked hard for four years to get to where he is today.”

Biebelhausen will run the 3,200 fresh this season at the state meet, as he qualified in just one event. The distance ace was 12th last season, only four spots out of a top eight medal..

The Miami University (Ohio) bound standout hopes to bow out with some hardware and place at the track state meet for the first time. He did not qualify in the open 3,200 his first two years.

“I just want to go out and run my best,” said Biebelhausen. “The goal is to place in the state. I have to go out with the leaders and fold it (in the front pack).”

Staying with the leaders…that’s been the status quo for Stephen Biebelhausen.
