GIRLS SOCCER: Notre Dame Prep dominates Clawson for district crown

BIRMINGHAM — It took Pontiac Notre Dame Prep double overtime to down second-ranked Birmingham Detroit Country Day, 1-0, in a Division 3 girls soccer district semifinal.

The fighting Irish did not have work extra long Saturday.

Notre Dame Prep captured its second straight district crown Saturday at Country Day, topping Clawson, 8-1, to advance to Tuesday’s regional semifinal at Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. The Irish, ranked third heading into the postseason, will face No. 9 Jackson Lumen Christi.

NDP raced out to a 5-1 lead at the half and tacked on three more goals in the second half to dispatch the Trojans.

Lindsey Klei scored for NDP (18-2-2) and Lizzy Pasquin countered for Clawson, knotting the score at 1-1 early in the contest. After that, it was all Notre Dame Prep.

Taylor Tscored three times with an assist in the first half, and Klei netted a goal and an assist late in the half.

In the second half, Rosella Lochirco, Klei and Erika Wiest added single goals, while Christine Scheer added two second half assists and three total in the contest.

Alex Arnoldy finished with four saves in five attempts for Notre Dame Prep. Megan Kraus added two saves for the Irish in the second half.soccer - balls on field
