MADISON HEIGHTS — Only a half decade ago, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes-Clarkston Everest Collegiate Unified kickstarted its own girls soccer program. The Lakers have enjoyed tremendous success in the postseason since those inaugural days.
Top-ranked WOLL-CEC captured its sixth straight district this season and continued its pace through the Division 4 state tournament with a 2-0 shutout of Riverview Gabriel Richard in a regional semifinal at Madison Heights Bishop Foley.
After a scoreless first half, unbeaten WOLL (19-0-0) scored twice in the final 40 minutes to blank the Pioneers.
Anna Robb curled in a cornerkick in the 46th minute for what proved to be the game winner for Lakes, which finished as the state runner-up in D-4 last season.
Jessica Parry netted an insurance goal in the 68th minute, rifling in a shot from 18 yards out to cap the scoring.
Megan Luttinen made five saves for the shutout and helped move the Lakers into the Elite Eight in D-4 for the fourth consecutive season.
WOLL-CEC will face Grosse Pointe Woods University-Liggett on Friday at 6 p.m. in the regional finals, also at Bishop Foley.
