SOFTBALL: St. Clair blanks Notre Dame Prep for regional championship

PONTIAC — Brittany Schweiger was dominant on the mound and St. Clair blanked host Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 6-0, Saturday afternoon in a Division 2 softball regional final.
St Clair will play Livonia Ladywood on Tuesday in the state quarterfinals at Novi High School. Prep finishes the season 20 -15-1
Schweiger scattered just three hits to gain the win for St. Clair. She stuck out five and hit two batters in the win.
The game was a scoreless tie going into the bottom of the fourth, when Schweiger provided the game winning hit, via a leadoff home run, for the Saints. St. Clair went on to score another run in the fourth with the help of an Irish error.
The fifth inning saw St Clair blow the game open by scoring four runs on three hits and three Irish errors to put the game out of reach and win their second straight regional title — both courtesy of wins over Notre Dame Prep.
Junior Victoria Bayliss collected two of the three hits for Notre Dame Prep. Carly Joseph suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs and seven hits against one strikeout and one walk.
PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 14, CLAWSON 0: Notre Dame Prep got hits from nine different players to cruise [past the Trojans in this D-2 regional semifinal. In all the Irish collected 14 hits.
Three different NDP pitchers combined for a two-hitter, striking out eight. Carly Joseph was the pitcher of record
Sophomore shortstop Kate Swartz went 3-for-4, scored three runs and drove home five runs, including a three-run triple, for the Irish. Victoria Bayliss, Hannah Antosz and Carly Joseph each picked up a pair of hits.
Prep jumped all over Clawson with four runs in the first and five runs in the second, before scoring one in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Erin Schrum and Kayla Morrison had the hits for Clawson.
