ROCHESTER HILLS — After helping Rochester’s boys basketball program to one of its best two-year runs in school history, Arben Camaj finally hit the radar of college coaches last winter.
He also finally made his decision last week on where to play next school year.
Camaj, a 6-foot-8 post player, signed with Division II Indiana Tech University, where he will play for coach Al Grushkin.
A three-year varsity veteran and two-year starter in high school, Camaj helped Rochester to its first district title since 1988 and first regional crown since 1950 this past winter. Rochester only lost six games over the past two seasons and the Falcons won league titles during Camaj’s sophomore and junior years. Rochester finished second in the OAA White Division this past season before making a run to the Class A Elite Eight, the furthest the Falcons have soared since reaching the Class B Final Four in 1950.
Camaj averaged around 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks a game for the 21-5 Falcons this past season, earning All-Area Second Team, All-OAA White Division and All-Oakland County Honorable Mention.
Indiana Tech is coming off a 21-10 campaign in 2012-13, including 14-8 in the WHAC. The Warriors will only return six player next season with the tallest of that group listed as only 6-6, which should give Camaj a shot at earning playing time as a freshman.
