GIRLS GOLF: Stoney Creek wins Troy Invitational

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Rochester Stoney Creek continued its fast start to the girls golf season Wednesday, winning the annual Troy Invitational at Twin Lakes Golf Course.

The Cougars posted a play-five, count-four team score of 322, to win by six strokes. Birmingham Seaholm followed with 328, while Troy (340), Birmingham Detroit Country Day (342) and Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood (342) followed suit.

Lake Orion was sixth at 353, one stroke ahead of Rochester (354). Clarkston (366), Auburn Hills Avondale (378) and Rochester Adams (400) rounded out the top 10.

The tournament also featured the first OAA Red Division, which h Stoney Creek also captured. Seaholm, Troy, Lake Orion, Rochester, Clarkston and Adams also competed in the league-sanctioned event.

Senior Chloe Guschewski fired a 71 to take medalist honors and lead Stoney Creek to the impressive win. Lauren Ingle finished third with a 73, while Bailey Compton (83), Kelsee Zajac (95) and Lindsay Cairns (95) also contributed to the Cougars’ winning score.

Cordelia Chan of Cranbrook Kingswood also shot 71 to share medalist honors, while Lake Orion’s Moyea Russel and Rochester’s Veronica Haque, both freshman, tied for fourth with rounds of 74.

Cranbrook’s Greer Clausen and Nicole Jun of Country Day tied for sixth with 79s, Seaholm’s Megan Lam and Allegra Cunningham both shot 81 and Avondale’s Mackenzie Blomberg carded an 82 to round out the top 10 in the medalist standings.
