FRIDAY’S FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Oakland Christian gains revenge on Mayville; Stoney Creek thumps Pontiac

AUBURN HILLS — It was a year ago when Auburn Hills Oakland Christian was on the receiving end of a 44-17 romping by Mayville. Losses have been commonplace during the Lancers’ first five seasons of prep football.

Perhaps Oakland Christian turned the corner Friday.

The Lancers exacted some revenge on the Wildcats, this time pulling out a 14-8 triumph over Mayville at the Auburn Hills Community Center Shark Tank Field.

After giving up a touchdown on a fumble in the end zone to Mark Smith, the Lancers (1-1) went on to outgain the Wildcats 320-171.

The Lancers brought the game to within 8-7 when Javarian Smith connected with Ryan Kostich on a 48-yard touchdown pass. Oakland Christian ventured into the lead on a 5-yard run by Smith.

Smith had 220 passing yards, including seven throws to Kostich for 190 yards.

Defensively, Drake Falconer halted Mayville final drive inside two minutes when he intercepted a pass on the Lancers’ 35 yard line.

ROCHESTER TONEY CREEK 62, PONTIAC 13: Nick Rangos Joe Cox scored three touchdowns each, as the host Cougars ran roughshod over the Phoenix Friday in OA Red Division play.

Rangos had TD runs of 59, 6 and 51 yards, while cox scored the first TD on a 5-yard scamper and later added a another 5-yard run and a 54-yard sprint for Stoney Creek (2-0, 1-0).

Alex Scnurr caught a 5-yard pass from Scott Reader, and Paul Pollack chipped in with a 2-yard scamper for another score for the Cougars.  Schnurr added seven extra points and Jack Lucci another for Stoney Creek.

The Cougars led 28-0 after the first quarter and 49-13 by the half. Stoney Creek scored a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters.
LINDEN 21, HOLLY 7: Holly scored first, but Linden had the last laugh with three straight touchdown drives in this Flint Metro League win Friday.

Mike Immigton caught a 54-yard pass from Corey Sargent, Kevin Bates added a 14-yard touchdown run, Jacob Marshall returned an interception 78 yards and Cameron Cook booted three extra points for Linden (2-0, 2-0).

Sargent was 5-for-6 passing for 102 yards, while Gage Smith added 40 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards for Linden. Zack Kentish added 54 receiving yards for the Eagles.

Javon Barr scored on a 14-yard run for Holly (1-1, 1-1). Jake Zorn finished 11-for-26 passing for 103 yards and Andrew Scott had three catches for 68 yards and contributed nine tackles and two sacks defensively for Holly.

The two teams were tied 7-7 at the half, with the Eagles scoring twice in the third quarter to pull ahead.

RIVERVIEW GABRIEL RICHARD 33, CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 13: Gabriel Richard opened with a 19-0 lead and cruised to the non-league win.

The Pioneers led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter and 26-6 at the half.

Noah Beauchamp caught a 14-yard pass from Sal Mastromatteo, while Mastromatteo added a 62-yard run for Everest Collegiate (1-1).

Mastromatteo finished 8-for-21 for 101 yards and Beauchamp caught a 14-yard pass from Sal Mastromatteo, while Mastromatteo added caught four passes for 73 yards for the Mountaineers.football - line of scrimmage
