GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Notre Dame Prep falls in semis of Lakeview Tournament

BATTLE CREEK — Pontiac Notre Dame Prep came up short in its bid to win its third straight tournament.

The Class B state-ranked Fighting Irish lost its first game of the season in the semifinals of the Battle Creek Lakeview Tournament, falling to fellow state power Temperance-Bedford, 25-16, 25-21.

NDP (18-2-0) downed Holt (25-16, 25-21), Battle Creek Harper Creek (25-17, 25-14) and Kalamazoo Central (25-9, 25-12) to win its pool.

In bracket play, the Irish defeated Vicksburg (25-22, 25-17) before falling to Bedford (32-30, 25-21) in the semifinals clash.

Against Bedford, NDP held an 18-10 lead in Game 1, but could not sustain the momentum.

Katherine Carlson added 22 kills to her total on the day while Bella Bucchi chipped in eight serving points as the Irish lost for only the second time this season.

In the opener against Holt, Jackie Lopez had a career-high five kills while Dani McCormick led all servers going 14-for-14, good for 10 service points. Against Harper Creek, Hannah Antosz had 11 assists while Carlson slammed 13 kills. In the last pool play game, Bucchi was 19-for-20 serving with 17 service points.
