BOYS SOCCER: No. 9 Stevenson ousts Troy

STERLING HEIGHTS — Neil Martorana scored in the 21st minute and the defense made it stand, as Sterling Height s Stevenson ousted Troy, 1-0, in a Division 1 boys soccer district opener Monday.

Stevenson, ranked ninth in the state, improved to 16-0-2, and will face top-ranked Troy Athens (19-0-0) in the district semifinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Athens.

Jason Licata set up the game’s only goal with a conrerkick into the penalty box, where Martorana was there to knock in the close-range shot. Ken Kutchman made 10 saves for the shutout for Stevenson.

Ben Holland recorded eight saves for Troy (15-11-1), which finished under five-hundred for the first time in 33 seasons.soccer - balls on field
