GIRLS VOLLEYBALL DISTRICTS: Notre Dame Prep sweeps Clawson; Oakland Christian ousts Lutheran Northwest
BLOOMFIELD HILLS — As one of the top girls volleyball teams in Class B, expectations are high for Pontiac Notre Dame Prep this postseason.
The Fighting Irish took the first step Monday at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook.
Notre Dame Prep had little problems with Clawson in a Class B pre-district, sweeping the Trojans 25-6, 25-11, 25-4in a match that lasted only 40 minutes.
The Irish (55-2-1) set a new school record for team aces in the match with 24 with Hannah Antosz leading the way with 12 aces and 19 assists. Dani McCormick added nine kills and Jenna Sassack contributed seven kills for Notre Dame Prep, which will face Birmingham Detroit Country Day in the semifinals Wednesday.
CLASS C
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 25-25-25, ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 12-21-8: Camille Schomer led the Lancers with eight digs, 11 kills and four aces in the pre-district win over host Lutheran Northwest. Kate Wilson contributed 10 kills and Elaine Haggard notched 34 assists for Oakland Christian, c faces New Haven in the semifinals Wednesday at Northwest.
CLASS A
TROY ATHENS 25-25-25, WATERFORD KETTERING 16-18-16: Haley Zemmer had 12 kills and three blocks and Dakota Stanichuk chipped in with 28 assists to lead the Red Hawks to the pre-district win Monday at Troy. Alexis Van Hoef added nine kills and five blocks for Athens.
TROY 25-25-25, WATERFORD MOTT 13-14-15: Troy cruised into Wednesday’s district semifinals with this sweep of Mott Monday at home. Sydney Alexander had 18 kills and Emma Loken had five kills and four aces for Troy.
