PONTIAC — Long hauls deep into the state tournament is no new journey for Pontiac Notre Dame Prep’s volleyball program. The Fighting Irish have ventured this path several times in the 20 years under head coach Betty Wroubel.

Notre Dame Prep is on another such journey this postseason.

The Fighting Irish cruised the next step Tuesday night on their own court, sweeping Center Line, 25-5, 25-15, 25-7, in a match that lasted less than one hour.

Notre Dame Prep, the top-ranked team in Class B, will carry its 58-2-1 record into the next round and face unranked Hazel Park for the regional trophy Thursday at 7 p.m. at home.

Katherine Carlson finished 19-for-19 attacking with 12 kills to lead Notre Dame Prep’s balanced attack. Ellen Guerra was 15-for-15 attacking with eight kills and four blocks, Jenna Sassack contributed six kills and two blocks, Emma Kowalkowski had 12 service points, including six aces, and Ashley Knutson dished up 17 assists and added nine service points in the sweep for the Irish.
