GIRLS BASKETBALL: Holly remains unbeaten with win over Brandon

ORTONVILLE — Holly received a scare Friday night — for about eight minutes.

In the end, the Bronchos girls basketball team continued one of its best starts by blowing past host Ortonville Brandon, 54-26, in a Flint Metro League rivalry contest.

Holding just an 8-7 lead tie at the end of the first quarter, Holly opened up the second frame with as 20-0 run and was never seriously threatened by the Blackhawks again. Holly outscored Brandon 26-4 in the second quarter for a 34-11 halftime advantage.

In the third frame, the Bronchos continued to punish the Blackhawks with a 12-2 run —Holly outscored Brandon 38-6 over the middle two quarters — and led 46-13 entering the final quarter.

Brandon closed with a 13-8 edge in the fourth quarter.

Allysa Copley led Holly with a game-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds and six assists. Kaitlyn Smith and Abby Lewandowski added 10 points apiece and Paige Reid twined nine points for the Bronchos.

Brooke Becker had 10 points and Amanda Harvard scored seven for Brandon.
