BOYS BASKETBALL: Troy works double-overtime to topple Lake Orion; Everest Collegiate, Adams cruise to wins

TROY Some overtime was required Tuesday night in Troy. But the extra sessions proved to be worth it.

The Colts kept pace in the OAA White Division boys basketball race with a 65-62, double overtime triumph over visiting Lake Orion to remain one game behind league-leader Troy Athens entering the final three weeks of the regular season.

Troy outscored Lake Orion 9-6 in the second overtime after being tied at 48-48 at the end of regulation. Both teams traded off eight points in the first overtime to forge a 57-57 deadlock at the end of the first overtime.

Lake Orion led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, and 24-17 at the half. The Colts (10-4, 7-2) responded with a 21-14 run in the third quarter to close to within 41-38 entering the fourth frame.

Troy outscored Lake Orion 11-8 in the fourth stanza to set the stage for overtime pay.

Demonta Hood finished 10-for-14 from the foul line and added a trio of three-pointers for 19 points to lead Troy. Danny Wunderlich added 15 points and Steven Brennecke scored nine for the Colts.

James Budreau scored 18, John McCarty chipped in with 16 points and David Henry twined 10 points for Lake Orion (8-8, 4-4).

CLARKSTON EVEREST COLLEGIATE 50, DETROIT CRISTO REY 35: Everest climbed to a 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and led comfortably at 30-15 at the half in recording this CHSL victory Tuesday. Steven Scott scored 13 and Noah Beauchamp added 11 points for the Mountaineers (8-7), who led 41-22 through three quarters of play.

ROCHESTER ADAMS 74, SOUTHFIELD 56: Adams outscored Southfield in each of the first three quarters and pulled out this OAA Red Division road win Tuesday. The Highlanders (11-3, 7-2) led 20-15 after eight minutes of play and 42-32 at the half. Adams pout the game away with a 19-11 third-quarter run, good for a 61-43 lead entering the fourth period. Four players reached double figures for Adams, led by 17 points from Thomas Girdler. Cole Davis and Jordan Wiley added 12 points each, while Akhemji Williams followed with 11 points for the Highlanders. Isaiah Green  scored 17 and Michael Flowers, Howard McInnis and Migeal Priest each added eight points apiece for Southfield (3-9, 2-6).
