GIRLS BASKETBALL: Clarkston’s Erika Davenport is Class A Player of the Year

Holly’s Copley, Rochester Adams’ Jamison, Oxford’s Murphy also make the cut

CLARKSTON — Erika Davenport is the Associated Press Class A All-State Player of the Year — and for good reason.

The 5-foot-11 junior post player dominated throughout the season, including a 48-point explosion in a district opening win over Rochester Adams. In that same outing, she added 23 rebounds and played at a high level all season which will put her on the map as a Miss Basketball candidate in 2015.

The third-year varsity veteran and two-year starter was chosen for the award — unanimously — selected by a 10-member panel of sports writers from across the state. She averaged 22.3 points and 14.2 rebounds per game, while posting a double-double in 19 of her team’s 22 games.

Joining Davenport on the squad are Marte Grays of Detroit King, Asia Robeson of Kalamazoo Central and Jessica Walter of Midland, Cori Crocker of Grand Ledge, Tyra Jones of Detroit Cody, Tinara Moore of Southgate Anderson, Jasmyn Walker of Muskegon Mona Shores and Shannon Wilson of Bloomfield Hills, and junior Cierra Rice of Grosse Pointe South.

Below is the complete list:
