COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Oakland’s Felder selected as freshman All-America
BOSTON – Oakland’s Kahlil Felder was selected to the 2014 Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team, announced by CollegeInsider.com on Tuesday. Felder, a native of Detroit, is a finalist for the Kyle Macy Award, given to the country’s top freshman.
Felder started all 33 games for the Golden Grizzlies at point guard, setting a new program and Horizon League freshman record with 212 assists, 10th in the NCAA. He dished out a league-best 6.4 assists per game (seventh in NCAA) and tallied OU’s first-ever triple-double against Detroit (Feb. 14) with 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
The 2014 Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Felder led the league with three points-assists double-doubles. He posted 18 double-figure scoring games, including a season-best 25 against Milwaukee (1/8). Felder dished out 7 or more assists in 16 contests this season.
A total of 25 freshmen were named to the Kyle Macy Freshmen All-America Team. Felder is 1 of 10 players that hail from a mid-major conference. The winner of the 2014 Macy Award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 4th in Dallas, site of the NCAA Final Four.
