GIRLS LACROSSE: Sacred Heart bounces Rochester from D-2 tourney

ROCHESTER HILLS — It’s hard enough to draw a state powerhouse program in a pre-regional. Do it and have to play without the services of your all-time leading goal scorer and your top two goalies.

Such is life for Rochester’s girls lacrosse program. The Falcons had to face Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart in a Division 2 pre-regional Wednesday night with gaping holes in their lineup.

As expected the result was not a kind exit for Rochester, as Sacred Heart rolled to a 19-6 victory.

With standout Jessica Leininger out with a hip injury and the fact that Rochester had to put a file player in goal, the Falcons could not match up.

Sophia Yzerman scored eight goals to lead Sacred Heart. Alice Zimmer added four goals, while  Bailey Seklar scored three times and Amanda Petzold chipped in the other two goals for the Gazelles.

Rochester, which finished 10-2-4, had two goals each from Anna Mazzara and Kayla Nowicki and single goals from Kelly Krako and Bethany Malinowski.
