COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Former Clarkston standout Nick Tatu signs with Rochester College
ROCHESTER HILLS — Rochester College head men’s basketball coach Klint Pleasant is pleased to announce the signing of Nick Tatu.
Tatu ranks ninth in the Clarkston record books for points in a career with 953 (11.9 ppg) and third in three-point field goals made in a career with 182.
Tatu joins the Warriors after playing two seasons at Trine University in Angola, Ind. The 6-foot shooting guard appeared in 26 games, averaging over 10 points a game, and connecting on 39.7percent from three-point range for the Thunder this past season. He will have two years of eligibility left at RC.
Before arriving at Trine, Tatu prepped at local high school powerhouse Clarkston High School under the guidance of head coach Dan Fife. Tatu played an instrumental role on four conference championship teams, three district championships, and one regional championship for the Wolves. Tatu poured in a career-high 47 points, including a school record 12 three-pointers against Troy High School in his senior season. At the conclusion of that season he was named second team All-Oakland County, All-OAA Red Division and All-North Oakland Area First Team.
“We’re extremely excited to have Nick in our program. We liked him out of high school and thought he would be a good fit back then. He comes from a great high school program, was well coached, and learned all the right things — including winning,” said Pleasant. “He’s also coming off two good years in college as well. We’re excited about him because he is not only a guy that can knock down shots behind the arc but he also brings toughness, unselfishness, and a high basketball IQ. He wants to win and values team camaraderie. I have enjoyed getting to know Nick and am thrilled he is joining our program. I’m excited to work with him.”
