GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Troy, Notre Dame Prep, Oakland Christian win district crowns

TROY — After a three-year hiatus, Troy is back in the regional round of the Class A postseason.

The Colts outlasted arch-rival Troy Athens, 3-2, in the Class A district finals Friday, posting a five-game, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 15-10 victory.

Hannah Moeller was an all-around threat to lead a blanched attack for Troy (25-25-2), collecting 34 digs with eight kills for the Colts. Sarah Hone recorded nine kills with three blocks and Sydney Alexander slammed 11 kills for Troy, which will face fifth-ranked Clarkston in Tuesday’s regional semifinals.

Dakota Stanichuk had 27 assists, seven kills and four aces for Athens. Alexis Van Hoef added 13 kills and eight digs, Katie Scudder chipped in with seven kills, five blocks while Michelle Donato followed with seven service points, three aces and 28 digs for Athens (30-19-0).

 

CLASS B

PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 25-25-25, BLOOMFIELD HILLS CRANBROOK KINGSWOOD 13-6-22: It’s a numbers game for Pontiac Notre Dame Prep when it comes to the postseason.

The Fighting Irish, the defending Class B state champions, played in their 17th straight district championship match and came away with their seventh straight district title. It also marked the second straight season NDP ousted Cranbrook Kingswoood in the district finals.

Miss Volleyball candidate Katherine Carlson recorded 26 kills, 13 digs with two aces for Notre Dame Prep (54-5-0). Angela Adams added 15 service points with four aces, Emma Kowalkowski had 22 digs, while Ashley Knutson chipped in with 17 assists and 14 digs for the Irish.

 

CLASS C

AUBURN HILS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 25-27-25, ROCHESTER HILLS LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 21-25-18: Since moving up to Class C four seasons ago, Oakland Christian has reached the district title match each time.

The Lancers have also made it three straight district titles.

Oakland Christian, state semifinalists last season, outlasted Lutheran Northwest Friday in three games at Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart to advance to Tuesday’s regional semifinals.

Camille Schomer had 15 kills and 18 digs to pace the Lancers (32-16-3). Alex Gudobea had 17 digs and 10 kills, while Elaine Haggard dished out 32 assists for Oakland Christian, which faces Madison Heights Bishop Foley Catholic in the regional semifinals.
