TUESDAY’S PREP ROUNDUP: Avondale rolls over Harrison; Clarkston outpaces Pontiac

AUBURN HILLS — Farmington Harrison had a hand in why Auburn Hills Avondale didn’t shoot light out on the basketball court Tuesday night.

The Hawks counter with plenty of size while Avondale is somewhat of a smaller team.

The Yellowjackets still answered with its quickness and ability to cash in on second chance opportunities in posting a 69-45 OAA crossover triumph over Harrison.

“We had 20 offensive rebounds,” noted Avondale coach Tim Morton. “When you do that, you can win some ballgames. Harrison is really big with their big 6-10 guy in there and a couple of other taller kids. They blocked some shots, which is why we didn’t shoot that great. But we used our quickness to get in there and grab rebounds and we scored a lot of points off those (Second chances).”

Avondale (4-2) led 15-8 after the first quarter and 32-17 at the half. In the third frame, a 17-15 edge gave the Yellowjackets a comfortable 49-32 cushion entering the final frame, where Avondale closed out with a 20-13 run.

Chris Barton torched the nets with 20 points, while Darius Woods nailed a trio of three-pointers and finished with 17 points for Avondale.

John Reckhoff, Harrison’s 6-10 post player, scored 16 for the Hawks.
