CLARKSTON — Never a doubt.

Clarkston captured its 40th district title in school history Friday on its own court, dominating Oxford in all phases of the game en route to a 77-35 Class A district finals victory.

Senior Mr. Basketball candidate Foster Loyer scored a game-high 33 points before leaving the game early in the fourth quarter. Loyer drilled nine three-pointers on the night to go along with eight assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals.

Senior center Taylor Currie added 12 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks, while senior guard CJ Robinson contributed 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds for Clarkston, which landed all 10 of its seniors into the scoring column.

Clarkston captured its 23rd district title in 25 years and played in the district finals for the 24th time in the past quarter century — last missing in 2013.

After scoring only nine first-quarter points in Wednesday’s 62-50 district semifinals win over Lake Orion, the top-ranked Wolves came out scorching the nets by taking a 26-14 advantage after eight minutes of play.

Clarkston (21-1) blew the game wide open with a 22-4 run in the second quarter for a commanding 30-point advantage at the half (48-18).

The Wolves outscored Oxford (8-14) by a 29-17 count in the second half.

Sophomore forward Michael Raisch scored 13 points for Oxford, while senior guard Nolan Harding added nine points, all on three-pointers, for the Wildcats.

Clarkston will play OAA Red Division rival Troy Monday at West Bloomfield in a 7 p.m. regional semifinals contest.
