GIRLS BASKETBALL: Notre Dame Prep falls in regional finals
TROY — Pontiac Notre Dame Prep’s magical run through the state tournament came to a crashing halt.
the fighting Irish, who ended the regular season with a 8-11 record, came up shot to the hands of state powerhouse Birmingham Detroit Country Day, falling to the Yellowjackets 47-25, in the Class B regional finals Thursday at Troy Athens High School.
Country Day held a slim 19-13 halftime lead, but blew the game open with a 19-9 third quarter run, which put DCD ahead 38-22. The Yellowjackets closed with a 7-3 run.
Kaela Webb scored 16 for DCD.
Junior Sarah Stuart led NDP (11-12) with seven points.
Defending state champion Country Day (20-4) will face Freeland (23-3) in the state quarterfinals Tuesday at West Bloomfield.
