GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Notre Dame Prep sweeps Regina, marches to fourth straight trip to semifinals

MACOMB TWP. — After nearly a two-month wait, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep is again marching on to the Final Four.
The state-ranked Fighting Irish advanced to their fourth straight Division state semifinals Tuesday after tripping up Warren Regina, 3-0, in a match played at Macomb L’Anse Creuse North. Notre Dame Prep prevailed by a 25-14, 25-13, 25-20 count to reach the Final Four for the eighth time in 15 seasons.
The Fighting Irish — who had not played since November 12 before the latest lockdown suspended the season — used a balanced effort to ground the Saddellites in the quarterfinals and earned a rematch with Lake Odessa Lakewood in Thursday’s 4:30 p.m. state semifinals at Kellogg Arena.
Senior libero Livy Kowalkowski, who has signed with Division I Georgia State, led the way with solid defense, registering nine service points including six aces with 17 serve receptions and 15 digs on the night.
Junior Aly Borellis, who has committed to Ole Miss, soaked 13 kills with a .730 attacking percentage with nine service points and two aces. She also contributed 16 assists and 11 digs.
Junior Josie Bloon had nine serve receptions, five digs and four service points, sophomore Margo Sudzina has 20 assists, 12 service points and six digs,, junior Bianca Giglio had eight kills and three blocks, junior Sophia Sudzina supplied eight kills and both junior Sara Nouhan and sophomore Grace Wenaas added seven kills apiece in the sweep.
Lakewood defeated NDP in last year’s semifinals while the Irish eliminated Lakewood back in the 2017 finals. Notre Dame captured state titles in 2007, 2013 and 2017.
