BOYS BASKETBALL: Williams nets 46 as Adams stymies Stoney Creek

ROCHESTER HILLS — Last week Rochester Adams suffered its first regular season loss since February of 2012, nearly two full years. On Tuesday night, Akhemji Williams made sure that losing would not become a habit.

The highly-touted senior point guard from Rochester Adams scored a game-high 46 points, which shattered the existing school record, to lead the Highlanders to an 88-68 OAA crossover victory over visiting rival Rochester Stoney Creek.

Williams, a Division I recruit, added seven steals and five assists for good measure for Adams. Spencer Littleson added 11 points and Brandon Barrows chipped in with seven points the Highlanders.

Behind the hot hand of Williams, Adams sprang a 20-13 lead on the Cougars at the end of the first quarter and utilized a 27-15 spurt in the second quarter to go up 47-28 at the half.

Stoney Creek ventured on a 22-16 run in the third quarter to close the gap down to 63-50 through three quarters of play. Adams closed out with a 25-18 edge in the final stanza to make the final score a 20-point spread.

Williams finished 12-for-13 from the line and 14-for-24 from the floor for the Highlanders, who converted 18 of 25 free throws as a team.

Charlie Carson nailed a trio of three-pointers and sank 9-of-13 free throws to finish with a team-high 26 points for Stoney Creek (2-1). Patrick Mertz added 11 points, Eric Gilganbach score nine and Jack Allen followed with seven points for the Cougars.
