AUBURN HILLS AVONDALE
COACH: Dave Muczynski, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 13-8, 11-3 OAA White Division.
STATE TOURNAMENT: Los tin Class A district semifinals to Waterford Mott.
RETURNING STARTERS: Hannah Little, 5-11 jr. F; Andrea Strauss, 5-5 sr. F; Loreal Ferris, 5-9 jr. F.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Courtney Williams, 5-6 sr. PG; Moriah Schroll, 5-11 sr. C.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Quennece Garrison, soph. G/F; Sabrina Douglas, fr. G/F.
KEY LOSSES: Jailynn Jackson-Hamilton, 5-5 sr. G (transfer to West Bloomfield); Victoria Powell, 6-0 C/F.
NOTABLES: Five of the top seven players are back for Avondale, which shared the OAA-White crown with Troy Athens and Rochester Stoney Creek last season; this team is quick and athletic and can cause matchup problems with many teams; Strauss is one of the area’s premier three-point threats and can break a game open with her shooting, while Little is one of the state’s better juniors; watch for this team to get out and run and try to wear teams down.

NOTABLES:
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN
COACH: Dawn Lichty, first season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 19-3, 14-0 MIAC Blue Division.
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class D district finals to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes.
NOTABLES: With most of its team graduating or transferring out, the Lancers will not field a varsity team this season for the first time since the mid1970s when the program began at Oakland Christian; the school will play mostly junior varsity programs and a few very small school varsity teams with a roster of freshmen and sophomores; the school hopes to re-add varsity girls basketball next winter.
CLARKSTON
COACH: Tim Wasilk, seventh season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 6-15, 4-10 OAA Red Division (seventh).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A districts to Rochester Stoney Creek.
RETURNING STARTERS: Megan Hastings, 5-5 jr.PG; Anna Manilla, 5-10 jr. F; Lindsey Reppuhn, 5-6 sr. G; Delaney Kenny, 5-9 soph. G.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Christina Jokisch, 6-1 jr. F; Jessica Ming, 5-8 jr. F; Natalie Drumb, 5-6 soph. G.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Erin Davenport, 5-1 soph. G; Breanca Cantrell, 5-3 jr. G; Sarah Rooding, 5-6 jr. G; Tori Timmer, 5-8 jr. F (transfer from Ohio); Kacy Robinson, 5-7 fr. G.
KEY LOSSES: Kaleigh Kenny, 6-0 F (Findlay).
NOTABLES: This team suffered through a major rebuilding campaign last winter but has nowhere to go but up; there is better depth on this squad but if the Wolves are to return to the top half of the OAA Red Division, they must simply shoot the ball better. There were several games last season where Clarkston finished with under 30 points; watch for the four returning starters to carry more of a leadership and scoring load this season.
CLARKSTON EVEREST
COLLEGIATE ACADEMY
COACH: Erin Hearn, first season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 0-0, first-year program.
STATE TOURNAMENT: Will compete in class D this season.
KET NEWCOMERS: Annie Ervin, 5-4 fr. G; Monica Lee, 5-10 soph. F; Sarina Nallamothu, 5-5 soph.G; Shannon DiSalle, 5-4fr.G; Megan Luttinen, 5-3 fr.G; Angelina Mastromatteo, 5-6 fr.G;Mary Jo Allen, 5-11 fr. G; Elise Mansour, 5-7 soph. F; Kersten, 5-11 fr. F; Mary Smith, 5-10 jr. F; Julianna Mastromatteo, 5-8 jr.F.
NOTABLES: The past two years, the players at Everest were part of a unified program with Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes. This season, the school’s third with a functioning high school, will compete with its own varsity team; there are two juniors, three sophomores and six freshmen on the squad, as there are no seniors in the building.
CLARKSTON SPRINGFIELD
CHRISTIAN
COACH: James Day, third season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 4-11, 1-7 FBAC Red Division (fifth).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in MACS Division I sectionals to Saginaw Community Baptist (48-15).
RETURNING STARTERS: Taylor Key, 5-4 jr. PG; Carissa Royer, 6-0 soph. C; Megan Kastner, 6-0 soph. F/G; Rachel Matthews, 5-6 sr. F.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Lauren Key, 5-3 fr. PG.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Emily Grant, 5-9 fr. F/C.
OTHER NEWCOMERS: Several freshmen and eight graders.
KEY LOSSES: Anna Lanpher, 5-6 G/F.
NOTABLES: This program is making the slow climb back to its hay-day of being a powerhouse in the MACS and FBAC, losing just one layer but having good size for a sub-50-student school and plenty of athleticism; the Eagles have three players between 5-9 and 6-0, and Key is a promising point guard who has handles and good court vision; the only negative is that most of the team is sophomores, freshmen and eighth graders; there will be a junior varsity team this year, too, for the first time in several years, as interest is rekindling.
LAKE ORION
COACH: Steve Roberts, 12th season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 15-9, 7-7 OAA Red Division.
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A regional semifinals to Birmingham Marian.
RETURNING STARTERS: Marissa Secontine, 5-9 jr. F.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Maddie Hutchinson, 5-7 sr. G (missed half of last season with injury); Dana Schrauben, 5-9 jr. F; Alyssa Wesley, 5-9 sr. G.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Laura Turnbull, jr. F/C; Emily Kipp, soph. F/C; Sydney Brice, sr. F; Nicole Grannis, sr. G; Jessica Pfister, jr. G.
KEY LOSSES: Alexis Haan, 6-0 F; Jaclyn Hood, 5-8 F.
NOTABLES: Lake Orion has won districts in three of the past four season and two straight, but will need to reload if the Dragons are to enjoy that type of success as they have suffered back-to-back large graduating classes of players; most of this team came off the bench or are players promoted from the junior varsity, as only two of the top 10 players returned this winter; the Dragons will likely finish in the bottom half of the OAA-Red, where Southfield Lathrup is the league favorite; Roberts is now second on the OAA coaching pecking order, behind Adams’ Fran Scislowicz but just ahead of Lathrup’s Michelle Jackson.
LAKE ORION BAPTIST
COACH: Janet Noruk, ninth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 6-11, 2-6 FBAC Red Division (fourth place).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost Ion MACS Division I sections to Rochester Hills Christian (49-16).
RETURNING STARTERS: Julina Moreno, 5-4 sr.PG; Megan Jenkins, 5-6 sr. F; Jill Streetman, 5-8 jr. F.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS:
KEY NEWCOMERS: Breann Watterworth, 6-1 fr. C.
KEY LOSSES: Hannah Moore, F; Kelsey King, G.
NOTABLES: The Lions could be a better team this season with the return of three key players, plus one of the league top prospects in Watterworth, whose older sister is a starter at Oakland University; with a true post player in the lineup, the Lions can now go inside and have a four-year PG in Moreno who can find the open players; look for LOBS to make the FBAC-Red a little deeper this season.
OXFORD
COACH: Al Poynter, sixth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 11-10, 11-7 Flint Metro League (fourth).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A district opener to Romeo (59-41).
RETURNING STARTERS: Mikaela Parrish, 5-11 sr. F/C (14.1 ppg).
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Sam Murphy, 5-7 sr. G/F; Allysa Delong, 5-5 jr. G; Sam Myers, 5-5 jr. G; Shelby Davis, 5-10 soph. F; Kelsey Harrison, 5-8 soph. F.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Michelle Gilmore, 5-6 jr. G/F; Lindsey Lewis, 5-9 jr. F/C; Cassie Edgemon, 5-5 jr.G; Emma Kimmel, 5-6 soph. G/F; Maddy Line, 5-10 soph. F/C; Maranda Murphy, 5-9 soph. F/C.
KEY LOSSES: Allie Laidlaw, 5-7 PG; Megan Tilley, 5-6 SG; Emily Brooks , 5-7 F.
NOTABLES: It’s a new era of Wildcats basketball, as Oxford will move into the OAA White Division after competing in the FML since 1983; the Wildcats have one of the best post players in all of Oakland County is Parrish and several athletic but unproven players who came off the bench or have been promoted to the varsity ranks this season; with several players serving as combo players, there is plenty of versatility in this year’s group; the Wildcats may be the youngest team in the division with five sophomores and only two seniors on this year’s roster.
ROCHESTER
COACH: Adam Shelton, second season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 11-9, 10-4 OAA Red Division (third).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A district semifinals to Lake Orion.
RETURNING STARTERS: Kristin Garr, 5-6 sr. PG; Katie Steffens, 6-0 sr. F/C.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Cady Pozolo, 5-8 sr. G/F; Zhana Randolph, 5-8 soph. G.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Teqwazha Terry, 5-7 soph. G.
KEY LOSSES: Ashley Keyes, 5-5 PG; Megan Heiden, 5-9 F; Hilary Braun, 5-9 G/F.
NOTABLES: The Falcons graduated 75 percent of its scoring, losing a large crop of players to graduation, plus another who opted not to play this season; Rochester has a solid post presence in Steffens and the return of Pozolo, a state champion relay runner in track who missed last season with a hand injury, gives this team some quality seniors. But who will score? The Falcons must develop some go-to players on the offensive end in order to compete.
ROCHESTER ADAMS
COACH: Fran Scislowicz, 20th season (254-174).
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 12-6, 8-6 OAA White Division (fourth).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A districts to Rochester Stoney Creek.
RETURNING STARTERS: Jessica Lang, 5-10 sr. PG; Jocelyn McDougal, 5-5 sr. G; Kelly Quinlan, 5-8 sr. C; Karissa Roveda, 5-10, jr. F; Emily Bryce, 5-8 sr. F.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Lauren Boyle, 5-5 jr. PG; Taylor Houghtlin, 5-6 jr. G; Lexi Lewandowski, 5-10 soph. F.
KEY LOSSES: None.
NOTABLES: Despite not having a senior on its roster last season and graduating all five starters from two years ago, Adams still posted a winning record last winter and should join Auburn Hills Avondale and West Bloomfield in the race for the OAA White Division crown this winter; the only Achilles’ heal of this squad, much like a lot of others in the OAA, is shooting; the Highlanders must shoot at a higher percentage form the floor if they are going to contend.
ROCHESTER STONEY CREEK
COACH: Brad Crighton, ninth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 17-6, 11-3 OAA White Division (tied, first).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A district finals to Lake Orion (54-48).
RETURNING STARTERS: Gabby Yurik, 5-7 jr. PG (16 ppg, 5 rpg, 5apg); Kara Kovack, 5-5 sr. SG (10 ppg, 3apg, 3rpg; 56 three-pointers); Lauren Bolhuis, 5-6 jr. G
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Keri Scipione, 5-9 jr. F (4 ppg, 3rpg); Emily Wood, 5-11 sr. F.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Lauren Voss, 5-10 fr. G; Natalie Voss, 6-3 fr. F
KEY LOSSES: Stephanie Carter, 5-5 G; Lauren Vagt, 6-0 jr. F/C.
NOTABLES: The Cougars step up to the OAA Red Division after sharing the OAA-White with Troy Athens and Auburn Hills Avondale last season; Stoney Creek won its first two district games last season and only came a couple of points shy of a district championship; if this team continues to exist as the top shooting team in the OAA and develops some post play, this squad could finish in the upper tier of the OAA-Red and make a run at a district trophy.
ROCHESTER HILLS CHRISTIAN
COACH: Paula Bronsing, third season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 21-4, 5-3 FBAC Red Division (second).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in MACS Division I state quarterfinals to Saginaw Community Baptist (36-31).
RETURNING STARTERS: Megan Steiner, 5-11sr. C/F; Jane Crile, 5-6 sr. G/F; Alise Dubay, 5-3 jr. PG; Caroline Milsk, 5-6 sr. F; Devon Tucker, 5-8 sr. G/F.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Christie Steiner, 5-5 sr. F; Sandra Mikhail, 5-3 sr. G; Ashley Baker, 5-6 sr. F; Kaylee Gajowiak, 6-0 jr. C,
KEY NEWCOMERS: Kindra Armitage, 5-4 fr. PG; Sierra Rus, 5-2 jr. G; Ashley Baker, 5-7 fr. f/C; Jenna Porter, 5-7 fr. F/C.
KEY LOSSES: None.
NOTABLES: As freshman the current seniors did not win a game; now, the Eagles are amongst the favorites in the FBAC-Red and could be a team to watch in MACS Division I post-season; with virtually the entire team back and some promising newcomers, the sky is the limit for these Eagles.
ROCHESTER HILLS
LUTHERAN NORTHWEST
COACH: Michael Murphy.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD:
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class C districts.
RETURNING STARTERS: Jillian McLoughlin, 5-11 sr. F; Kim Lepor, 5-p6 jr.PG.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS:
KEY NEWCOMERS:
OTHER NEWCOMERS:
KEY LOSSES: Kayla VanGorden, 5-7 SG; Sarah Coleman, 5-6 F.
NOTABLES:
TROY
COACH: Dennis Koch, first season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 9-12, 5-9 OAA Red Division (sixth).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost in Class A district semifinals to Waterford Mott.
RETURNING STARTERS: Liz Seipker, 6-1 sr. C/F (committed to Hope College); Karin Moss, 5-6 jr. PG.
KEY NEWCOMERS: There are 12 newcomers; Sabrina Cotton, soph.; Gabbi Ellis, jr.; Katy McCuish, jr.; Sydney Heath, fr.; Jen Thompson, jr.; Kristin Soreide, sr.; Sonya Ahlouny, jr.; Rachel Zelmanski, fr.; Erin Farley, sr.; Tupper Bigelow, jr.; Taylor Bass, sr.
KEY LOSSES: There were 10 players who either graduated or did not return this season; Colleen Burns, 5-9 G/F; Madeline Young, 5-6 sr. F;
NOTABLES: The Colts have a new coach and mostly new players, as 12 of 15 players on the roster were not regulars on the varsity last season; Troy does have lightning-quick guard Moss and Seipker, who is in her third season after transferring from Birmingham Marian; if Seipker can stay inside and use her size to her advantage, she could become one of the better post players in the league as she has a nice touch; the jury is still out on how the colts will fare this season overall, as with a dozen new players, it will take time for this group to gel as a unit.
TROY ATHENS
COACH: Lindsay Noble, first season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 15-6, 11-3 OAA White Division (tied, first).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Lost Class A district opener to Waterford Mott.
RETURNING STARTERS: Haley Svrcina, 5-5 sr.PG; Marisa Kozikowski, 5-9 sr. G/F; Jenna O’Dell, 5-7 sr. G; Sinclair Russell, 6-1 jr. F/C.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Zakiya Aniapam, 5-5 sr. PG; Taylor Hill, 5-6 spph. G/F.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Mary Ann Black, 5-10 jr. F; Maria Abu-Judeh, 5-6 jr. G/F; Sharda Griffin, 5-7 jr. G/F; Tracey Lo, 6-3 jr. G; Kotomi Obayashi, 5-7 jr. F.
KEY LOSSES: Melissa Palmer, 5-6 sr. F.
NOTABLES: Athens has a new head coach in last year’s assistant Lindsay Noble and are in the upper division of the OAA this season, being promoted to the Red Division. With four starters and two key reserves back, the transition should be somewhat smooth; Athens has experience and depth, but it must learn to shoot better from the floor to stay in the upper echelon of the league.
TROY BETHANY CHRISTIAN
COACH: Tom Hagspihl, ninth season.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 17-2, 8-0 FBAC Red Division (first).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division I state champions, downing Midland Calvary Baptist 50-32 in the finals.
RETURNING STARTERS: Kim Garrick, 5-7 sr. SG; Sarah Davis, 5-8 sr. F; Staci Green, 5-3 jr. PG.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Lianna Sprankle, 5-4 soph. SG; Rachel Waldrup, 5-6 jr. F; Sarah Zieman, 5-9 jr. F; Carolyn Grassi, 5-6 jr. G/F; Karen Donald, 5-5 sr. G; Katie Goodwin, 5-7 sr. F; Jordan Walraven, 5-9 soph. F.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Sarah Tomkowiak, 5-6 soph. G; Sarah Bishop, 5-5 fr. SG.
KEY LOSSES: Amanda Bucklin, 5-10 F; Shea Hilliard, 5-11 sr. C (transferred).
NOTABLES: The five-time defending MACS state champions lost a quality senior class plus the transfer of its only post player, meaning this squad will have a guard-oriented look this season that will press and shoot the 3-pointer; although the Bruins won’t be favored in the MACS, they can still be a team capable to make a run if the younger players fill some shoes; this team is used to winning, earning six straight league titles and five straight state titles.

WATERFORD OUR LADY
OF THE LAKES
COACH: Steve Robak.
LAST SEASON’S RECORD: 22-5, 8-2 CHSL (tied, first).
STATE TOURNAMENT: Went 7-0 in the postseason to win Class D state championship.
RETURNING STARTERS: Lauren Robak, 5-10 sr. G (committed to Oakland); Ava Doetsch, 5-6 soph. G; Lexie Robak, 5-8 soph. G; Meghan Topolewski, 5-5 soph. G.
OTHER RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Haley Howell, 5-11 soph. C; Jessica Parry, 5-7 soph. G; Farrah Nordman, 5-7 sr. G; Emily O’Brien, 5-10 sr. F; Mackenzie Novak, 5-9 sr. F; Kaitlin Glynn, 5-7 sr. G; Kayleigh Meloni, 5-9 sr. F.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Abbey Troy, 5-8 sr. F (did not play last season); Carlee Cotrell, 5-9 jr. G (transfer from Auburn Hills Oakland Christian).
KEY LOSSES: None.
NOTABLES: What can Lakes do for an encore of a state championship season? Be even better. With only one key player lost, with an all-league transfer from a fellow top-10 program of a year ago, plus one of Oakland County’s top seniors, and this year’s team will have all of the facets of making another long run and perhaps claim a state title
